Question How does the Engine Start button work?

Ok, bear with me here... I'm swapping a 06 IS350 engine/tranny into another car. I have the 06 electrical wiring diagram and all the electronics out of the IS350. However... the wiring diagram doesn't tell you how the Start Button is used to select "Accessory mode" (eg. stereo w/o engine running) vs. actually starting the car. Looks like there's only IN and OUT positions on the button ("momentary contact" type), so I'm guessing you press-and-hold for a second or two to start the engine?

Also...
How do you stop the engine once running?
Can you stop the engine when the car's in motion?

Thanks!

Pressing the button without pressing the brake pedal will put it in accessory mode.. pressing the button again without pressing the brake pedal will put it in "on" mode... or, simply pressing the brake pedal, and pressing the start button once will start the engine. Pressing it again will turn it off... while driving, you have to press and hold the start button for three seconds to kill the engine...

Going in a 1990 Cressida. A semi-old school Japanese ride that you don't see around much anymore. New enough to be quiet inside and have some modern tech like ABS brakes and auto climate control. 3.0 straight 6 (7mge) and RWD. Discontinued in 92. It's the ancestor to both the GS300 and the Avalon (yawn).

The 7m is smooth enough, but is an evolution of an engine designed in the 70s. Only makes 190hp and gets about 20mpg overall. 2GR and its 6spd auto will be a vast improvement in all areas.

Those cars are total sleepers when you see them. My personal rule of thumb in south florida was if you see a Cressida with some one from the islands behiend the wheel "DONT RACE HIM" lol.

BTW: To the OP do you have any pictures of the project ?

Yeah, the 1J & 2J swaps have been done to death on these cars. I wanted something more challenging and different. I'm in Cali, and it will be smog legal as well, which will be the hardest part, probably. It's a daily driver so reasonable fuel mileage is important too. While I work on it I'll be driving my "weekend" car - a 91 MR2 swapped with a superchaged 1mz in it (also smog legal).

No pics yet. Just have the 2GR on an engine stand. I'll start a "build thread" here if you guys are interested. It would be slow. Like the guy that did the LS1 swap, I have two little kids and a day job...

One thing I've learned over the years when doing a swap is that slow and steady gets you quality work and parts. Which in turn equal less headaches down the road.

reason why my integra sits in my garage, I don't want to drive her until I buy the Skunk 2 Pro2 cams and matching valvetrain.
