Default AFS headlamp

Anyone know how to determine by looking at a headlamp unit itself if it has AFS, whats the silver DENSO motor sort of thing thats attached to the headlamp? is it to do with AFS or height levelling?

I was looking for the same answer. I just purchased my 4th IS a 2013 IS 250 AWD. My previous 07 had the AFS lights on and never gave it a thought when purchasing the new 13 model because I was upgrading to the Navigation system with all the features, preset seat buttons, Led lights and rain sensitive wipers. I never thought they would do away with the AFS lights. Then last night my first time driving in the night on a winding road I noticed immediately. I love that feature and had problems seeing when turning corners because I was use to the 07. I hope they didn't eliminate that feature. I'm going to go through my owners manual to see what I find.

I can't answer OP's question but 2011 above IS model has no more AFS feature. I love that feature too but if it comes to COST this COST that matters, that's the only reason I can think of when ppl are trying to enhance their final revenue.

I have AFS. The feature was deleted to make room for the Lexus LED Swoosh in the headlights. They couldn't keep both features as it wouldn't fit.

I love it too. Turns and goes up and down on hills. I heard they aren't bringing it back in 2014 for the 3IS either. Bummer

thanks for the replies. but having a look at the following ebay page: http://www.ebay.com/itm/171038549040 says that it includes the AFS motor. And looking at alot of ebay is250 led headlamps they all seem to say AFS.

This is why i am wondering if AFS motor is actually that DENSO motor that is visible from outside

Default AFS headlights

I talked to my Lexus dealer and he told me it wasn't for lack of room but rather price. To have both led running lights and AFS headlights wouldn't have been cost effective,. They changes to the led lights because that's what consumers are looking for rather than AFS lights. As for me I would rather have the AFS lights as I drive back winding roads and that's when you need them the most. I never even thought of asking when I traded my 07 IS with AFS lights in for the 13 IS and I think that's deceptive that they don't let you know. I just never thought they would remove that feature as it worked so well on my 07. I think they should at least offer it as an option package. But just as parking assist use to be an option on the IS they took that option away in 11 because as they told me IS owners weren't asking for that option.

The motor that you see from the outside is for the auto leveling. All of the AFS components are housed internally under the mounting bracket for the projector and as mentioned before was done away with to make room for the LEDs. Also in case you doubt me I can tell you I’m 100% correct as I've retrofitted both 2006-2010 HID and non HID headlights along with 2012 LED headlights.
