2 questions-
1) What spray paint (not plasti dip) is reccomended for wheels? I want a permanent solution thats more cost effective than powder coating.
2) a used set of wheels I bought are already spray painted in black, how do I clean it up to prep for plasti or spray paint? Or can I paint right over it?

Side note- I'm not disregarding plasti dip, but how long can I realistically expect the true color to last before fade/peeling?

I sprayed plasti-dip on my wheels because of the major curb rash I caused on one of the wheels; I just wanted to hide it. The color lasts if you can remove all the brake dust that gets embedded to the wheels. I'm just too lazy to remove the dip because I'll be putting wheels on soon, so I just left it there. I don't even clean the plasti-dip wheels because it's a pain in the ***. I tried to clean it multiple times, but the brown color of the brake dust reappears when the wheels are dry. I was at a friend's house the other day and I used his Brake Dust Pro product to remove brake dust from the wheels and it removed a lot of the brake dust that was embedded to the wheels. The color is back, but I only see plasti-dip as a temporary solution to things, so don't even try it if you want a permanent solution.

 

Plastic dip will become a weird shade of black and brown mixed with in a month...I say you can use plastic dip as a primer and use duplicolor paint that way you can people it off when u want to and repaint it a different color. I've been waiting to do this myself but with school 4 days a week and work there is just no time right now...I'll probably be doing sometime when the semester ends.

 

Dont use either.

Get them professionally painted or powder coated

 

Spray paint = gonna look cheap and ugly

Powder coat = gonna look clean and professional

All up to you.

Not necessarily...if a person knows their way around spray paint and how to spray the layers properly it will not look cheap and ugly.
