Default 2nd or 3rd Gen IS ?

First of all, I am new here and this may be my first post so bear with me. A bit of a dilemma for me, I like the current model quite a bit, I think it has classic, clean lines, but the 3rd gen is fast approaching, I could care less about the increased back seat room, and I am not fond of the rear area, but the front looks good. A big thing for me is color, I absolutely love the the Cerulean Blue on the current model, and right now I can order it with the black interior which is kinda rare, AND they are offering $2000 UNDER invoice.

I am just concerned that the 3rd gen may look A LOT better in person than what I have seen in photos. A little background, the wife bought a new silver ES350 back in November and I really like her new ES compared to the previous ES, even though I have to agree it does have a bit more of a cheap plastic feel to some of the interior materials, and that is what concerns me about the reviews on the 3rd gen IS, they talk about some of the cheap plastics below the belt line in the interior, whereas the 2nd gen has a very premium look and feel to all the interior.

So, I can get a 2013 IS250 in my favorite color combo for close to $5000 off MSRP, not sure if I can still order an IS350 since I heard they are stopping production on it. And I have no idea if they are going to offer Cerulean Blue in 2014. Hmmm.....

I'm thinking the same with the 3IS - that it will look better in person then it does in photos. If i were in your situation I would just wait for the 3IS, since its not that far out anymore. If you like it, build and order one for yourself. If you don't, you can get a good deal on a left over 2013 model or buy a 2IS CPO. Of course, you'd have to be willing to settle on a different color combo then what you have in mind - it will probably be hard finding the one your thinking about ordering now. $5000 off MSRP does sound nice tho...!

Here's the list of exterior/interior colors for the 3IS that I was able to find as well...

I wouldn't bother with the new 3IS.

They haven't even updated the engine.......
Cosmetics, suspension and other odd bits.

Nothing really shouts. "THIS IS NEW"

Pickup a used 2IS for cheap, fully optioned then upgrade when Lexus releases a real upgrade.

If those are the new color choices I may have to get more serious about looking at a 2013, I do like the the new titanium color but I really favor the Cerulean blue, I think I need to make another trip to Lexus to have a closer look at the car.

The 3IS is so ugly, don't even bother.

I would get the 2nd IS and save 2k from invoice. Drive it for 2-3 years and wait for them to upgrade the engines/work out potential issues commonly associated with redesigns.

3IS interior look pretty cool imo. But I wouldn't trade my 2gen for it. 2-3 from now, they will release a better version. Just like did our 2nd gen.

I bought a new 2012 IS-250 for nearly 8k off MSRP in February of this year.. I'm glad we bought it. I think the 3IS is too big.
Since there is no updated engines on the 3ISI can't see spending extra money for it. Go for the
2IS,you'll be glad you did .

I wouldn't get the 3IS. I saw it in person at the autoshow in New York and it actually looked worth than it looked in pictures. I would try to negotiate it with the dealer to take off a little bit more on the 2013 model you are looking it.

I wanted a 2012 but my local dealer only had white and the baby blue. I was pretty set on black or nebula grey so I got a 2013 for about 6.5k off msrp. I was there for 3-4 hours and negotiated them down several times, but there is definitly a lot more wiggle room in the 2IS with the 2014s coming out soon. Mine was a nav unit because they only had 1 non-nav 2013 in a color I would get so they were only willing to go down about 3-4k on it. I was dealing with the same dilemena but I much prefer the look and styling of the 2IS and the 6.5k savings off msrp sealed the deal.

edit: Forgot that 1k of that was the march deal where if you financed with lexus you got a 1k "rebate". So that was already built in to the offer so it was more like 5.5k off msrp, I went in with my own fiancing from my credit union but the different was only 0.5% and the 1k off saved more money than the added interest since I was only fiancing a small portion of the car anyways.

I'd go with 3rd gen. No one likes them now, but wait til they actually come out... in a year, everyone's gonna want one.

I was really wanting the light blue but found out I like "Breakwater Blue", not the hideous Cerulean Blue they have now, Breakwater must have last been done in 2010, so I guess I will wait to see what the new colors look like, from what I have seen so far I would get the mid silver Titanium color, I imagine there very well could be many used 2IS coming off leases that may be available, I guess I will wait, I am not in need of a car anytime soon, the IS would be a second car for me, plus just maybe we will get info in by the end of the year on the upcoming IS based Coupe since a coupe is what I prefer.

You can always pick up a used IS-F for a great price at that time too.
It would make a perfect second car for when you want to have some fun
