Default 2006 IS getting RUST :(

Noticed a little spot starting on front wheel well where the bumper edge meets the quarter panel.
Anyone else experience any rusting yet?

I have GFM, I dont believe its easily repainted if I went through the whole process of stripping it, filling it, and repainting the spot. It's not too visible yet, do I bother trying to remove it or just have it sprayed to slow it down and hope I can get 5+ years without a terrible looking patch of rust showing?

If it's just a spot of surface rust, you can try getting rid of it by clay-barring it. Try just a few passes, and if it doesn't work then you'll have to get it fixed properly.

If it does work, you might as well get the entire car detailed, waxed, and sealed professionally. And then get your undercarriage cleaned and coated with a rust inhibitor before the next winter.

Default Rust

Sounds like your car was involved in some sort of accident ? I find it hard to believe that it is just rusting on that spot it could also be something was modified or changed?

Are you the original owner?

Not original Owner. Ive had it for a year now. Carfax was clean.
When you say something was modified, can you be more specific as to what may cause this?

Just from personal experience, fix the rust before it spreads. It gets worse & will cost you more down the road.

What's the best method in this case?

A new fender, if that's all it is should be less than 600$ installed since you can get these fenders for reasonable money all day long and some time at a paint shop.

Someone must've hit it, or you hit a big rock and it started to rust, since this is very uncommon. There's still '01 IS300's buzzing around my city being driven yearly with no rust and we get a ton of snow/salt - you name it.

I wish I can tell you. Unfortunately I don't know what the body work was. I got an estimate of $300 to fix multiple rust spots on my previous car & instead of fixing them then, I let it grow & it cost me another $400.00.
Goodluck!!!

Any other more cost effective methods? lol
I'm totally out of ideas on what started this. Like I said, its manageable at the moment. But like someone said, I dont want to pay more than I have to. The area is clean (no signs of any damage).
My only guess is I've done something near that edge that would cause rust when I put in HID Fogs last fall...Went between the fender liner. But again, I highly doubt that.

Got an email for one of those dealfinds, might take it in to rust check for $49.
See what the rust experts say...

^Yes...exactly! Need pics of the size of spot. To me it just sounds like a rock chip that started to rust. Get some rust-inhibiter, a little paint, and clear. Done!
