Default Front License Plate Alternative?

Hey CL,

Ive had my 2012 IS 250 for almost half a yr now and after having a shoot with a few CL members, I really hate having my front plate on....Are there any alternatives besides using a Tow hook mount? I know I can cover up the holes with caps from my local home depot. I live in the Bay Area, CA so its a hit or miss with cops actually pulling you over for no front plate

Some people attach it to the lower grill. Not sure if it works with the IS

Lucky for me, in Washington I just leave it off. I have left it off for 6 years and never got a ticket... I might not do that in CA though.

That's exactly what I did to mine (with zip ties). Looks a lot better than the standard mount or tow hitch mount.

I did a ghetto-rig and found some parts at Home Depot that made it look like it was drilled into the lower grill.
I took it off though because I still hated the way it looks with the front license plate.
For a $25 fix-it-ticket, I figured i'll test my luck

I put some door weather stripping on the back, then wrapped that and the edges in white electrical tape. I put zip ties on all four corners. It doesn't move at all.

Nice

I need a new bumper and really don't want to drill the new one so maybe I'll go with this route

This has been discussed before. In CA they can give you a ticket even while parked. Here is what I did.

I used that exact same non-motorized version after my fix it ticket, which, as Mariano mentioned, happened while my car was parked outside on the street. I affixed it underneath my bumper, which reduced my ground clearance but protected the underside of the bumper a great deal. It really worked, but I just got bored with the look. I might try the motorized approach, but I know there will be some cutting of the lower grille.

here's my setup -

heres the better view -

ISF front style bumper. i had to trim it a bit. cut it around all sides. not sure how to do it with regular bumper. originally i thought about just using like velcro perhaps. on the beamers they have this motorized unit that can bring up the plate and then hide it.
