2006 IS350. Do we need a spoiler? I do a decent amount of highway driving, usually around 80-85-90 mph. I'm all about being safe, especially on a highway. I was on some Evo forums and they were talking about wings and what-not. They said some cars have a little lip on the top of the trunk to help with negating rear axel lift off the road (our cars have a slight lip thing going on). Does the little factory trunk lip (not the added on extra big lip) help us? Or do we need that extra big lip/real wing in order to acquire some better traction at higher speeds?
This is the "Factory lip" I'm referring to. As in lack of a spoiler.
lol it's all for looks for the most part. As mentioned above, you won't notice a difference unless you're going very fast, and even at that point, a little lip spoiler won't be of much difference.
A small spoiler actually made a difference at speeds above 80 mph on the round back end of the TT. The Lexus IS is more squared off so it probably wouldnt be a big deal even at 100+ mph.
Wow, take it easy on the OP! Not everyone is going to have all the knowledge about their cars functionality, and that's why we have the forums! It's all about sharing the knowledge we know with those who don't but are trying to learn.
I believe the IS looks a littler"bare" without a rear trunk spoiler. I purchased my IS without a spoiler and have gone thru my share of aftermarket spoilers and finally settled on an Ings+1 trunk spoiler. To me it's just for looks, nothing really else.
