I lost my keys with my car fob key attached to it. Any advice on what to do? I was thinking about reprogramming the computer and such and finding a replacement key as well. Sorry if I'm repeating a post but I did a search and didn't find what I was looking for unless I didn't use the correct key terms/words. Thanks a lot!

 

Speaking from a Hawaii-specific dealership experience but it shouldn't be any different. If anything, its probably a lot cheaper on the mainland.

The key fob will cost you around $350-$400. The computer needs to be reprogrammed at about $100-$150. Be mindful that while they cannot steal your car, they will be able to unlock ur car and trunk with that key-insert thing. If you are ok with just using the other set, you don't have to buy another key fob obviously.

If you want to ensure 100% security, you are looking at changing the locks on the door/drunk/glove and the rest of the above. It can easily cost $1500-$2000 for all of this.

Reprogramming will not let anyone with the old key start the car or get in with the remote, but if you worry about opening the car door with the physical key, you need to change the lock cylinder on the door (depending on how paranoid or safe you want to be).

 

Well the key fob you lost can easily be disabled at a Lexus dealership. Someobody here posted screenshots once of what the computer shows when our car is plugged in at the dealership and its fairly easy to add/delete keys.

Like RX808 said though, the problem then becomes that the physical key built into the key fob can still be used. I mean if you lost it far away from where your car usually is or something, i personally wouldn't worry too much about having all those physical key areas re-keyed (if thats even an option - never seen anyone who had to do it). But if you lost it somewhere close to where you car is usually parked or if you had anything on your keychain that could lead someone back to your home or work, etc....you may consider changing it. It's basically what you think the chances are of someone finding your keys, finding your car, knowing the physical key is built in and how to use it, and then actually using it.

 

I crashed my 2006 is350 in 2008 and the key fob is still with me. I have a 2007 350 now and thinking of keeping it as spare in case I lose my key fob. If you are interested, please PM.
