So I probably should of started this thread before I took my fog light out, but I was bored anyway so here we go. Is there any way to bake open the fog lights? The previous owner bought cheap HIDs for the fogs and did not install them properly. He used some sort of adhesive that left a huge amount of gap between the hole in the housing and the light itself. So that left room for oxidation and this rust nonsense to happen. So I need to bake it open to attempt to clean it and if that doesn't work then respray it. I tried searching and found nothing. So are these fog lights capable of being opened or are they impossible to get back together after being opened? I have a decent idea of the temp and time I'm going to have to do it for, but I don't want to take them apart if I can't get them back together. Thanks in advance.
Well, that's at least most of what I wanted to hear. I couldn't find any threads where people had done it, but it is possible. I've never done fog lights or headlights myself before, but I'm familiar with the general process of things.
U dont have to bake it, just used your heat gun and do it slowly it will come right off, also silicon it tightly before install back. U can get a bucket of water and immerse it to test if the seals are good or not before install back in the car. Good luck and take your time.
It's simple, didn't read the linked thread but just bake them about 8-10 minutes around 175degrees and pry them apart. Happy modding/fixing!
Yeah, only thing I was worried about was there being a seal of some sort that once removed wouldn't be able to properly be put back together. I know some Subaru fog lights I believe were like that. But I did 200 degrees for 15 minutes and it was really easy to take apart. Cleaned up and ready to put back together!
