Yeah so can someone explain the whole afs issue. Would the light in my cluster be on all the time if I upgrade or is it just sometimes. Cause I don't know about you but I hate warning lights and makes me think my car is going to fail. Can anyone verify this issue that the 06-09 cars have that the new 2011-12 ones that don't.

No they don't. There are no turning motors in the headlights anymore, that's why the light is blinking, because the wires aren't going to anything anymore (There were sensors and motors in the old AFS headlights that just don't exist anymore). The projectors are now mounted solid, no swivel.

Aww ok. So it will blink when I turn a corner and when it wants to activate the afs. That might get annoying. Is there any sort of override or cutting of wires or pulling fuse that will not enable the light in cluster to light up if I did the 2011 swap.

I turn more heads now than before. Had to sacrifice the AFS but its Best 1100 I've spent on my car. I don't miss it and I'm sure others that have upgraded can agree.
opening and painting them seems to be a great idea, down with that
recent thread was posted and several members were haivng issues with moisture getting in
in addition to bubbles, afs not working and light flashing, and possibly having moisture issues i just said screw it
maybe if i find a used set for cheap ill get them

No it will blink all the time. If you want to stop the blinking light you have 4 choices:

Remove the AFS Fuse - This will also kill your auto-leveling.
Unplug the AFS ECU - This will also kill your auto-leveling.
Open the gauge cluster and disable the light, either by covering the opening, or removing the LED
Swap the AFS ECU for a 2011+ Leveling ECU, this is not plug and play and will require rewiring!

Congrats ure the first member I've heard of with the 2011+ lights that still has AFS. From my understanding from reading multiple threads before I upgraded was that the 2011+ don't have the AFS motor inside their headlights that was the big issue besides the bubbling defect. Unless they recently came out w ones that have AFS and I didn't read about it. But I took out the fuse for it so no blinking light or tacky black tape

That's what I thought. Bc he claims he still has AFS w the 2012 lights. That's news to Me.

Retrofit. But 300-400 might be a hard budget to meet.

I was going to wire them on the inside of the headlight. Right now I have those led strips on the outside. But I'm trying to figure if they will work in the inside. I am really leaning toward the 2011 swap. But just not sure cause I want wheels and a few other things before I do headlights.

if anything just buy ur other stuff now and the 2012 lights later, unless thats like a deal you have to make now. Do it right if you're gonna do it bc everytime you see the 2011+ headlights and compare it to those LED strips you are gonna wish it you had pulled the trigger on them. Those LED strips will fit on the inside of your headlights you may have to run a wire and drill a small hole, and seal it up so you don't get any moisture inside but again I'm totally against the idea bc it just looks terrible/ricey/cheap and so on. Also Its not a very tasteful mod so it will hurt your resale value later on whether you sell the car as is or try to sell off the headlights if you decide to upgrade to the 2011+ lights. I don't know anyone that bought the 2011+ headlights and wasn't happy with them regardless of the bubbling defect, and losing the AFS
