I just found this link that stats that CPO buyers at the time of purchase can
http://lexus-extended-warranty.putna...exus-vehicles/
So I think this might be worth it as the alternative option of getting a Lexus VSA would only warranty the vehicle till 2016 and this extension could bring it to 2018.
also have the ability to purchase a “Certified” Lexus extended warranty that will provide you with up to 3 years and 125,000 total vehicle miles of coverage after the CPO limited warranty expires.
So I think this might be worth it as the alternative option of getting a Lexus VSA would only warranty the vehicle till 2016 and this extension could bring it to 2018.

I just skim the page from the dealer, but you can pick up that they are offering you the Lexus Platinum VSA which takes effect when your CPO expires. You would be buying the 8yr/100k Lexus Platinum VSA (not an extended CPO warranty). The Lexus extended warranty will last to 2018 if the car was in service at 2010. The MSRP is $2,325. I would buy it from the guy you called; he should give you a better deal than the dealer (and better than MSRP).

Now that I thought about it, when I bought mine CPO, they offered to extend the warranty too. They wanted an additional $2k or something for it. I should still have the paperwork for it somewhere that they wanted me to sign. If I can dig it up i'll check and see what kind of warranty it exactly was.....they REALLY wanted to me buy it....no surprise, it's probably all profit for them.

Consumer Reports says not to buy it.
Think about it: generally the dealerships gets half of the price as pure profit, so a $1500 warrenty only costs $750. Lexus is betting $750 that you will use less than $750 in repairs.
The best answer (so long as you can afford it) is to put the $1,500 in a savings account and use it if something goes wrong. In most cases you will win.
Besides, you are already covered for 3 yrs 100k, so it is not like you are totally unprotected.

so what about all the carbon build up issues and pre mature water pump failures. lets say you dont get the extended warranty and your cpo warranty runs out and your mileage is only 75,000. then what? will that $1,500 in the savings account really cover any major repairs? i dont think so. i personally think the extended warranty is well worth it espically after hearing about the issues as stated above. i bought my IS with 29,000 miles and it was a cpo, i also bought the extended warranty for 3k. i now know that was a rip off, but didnt know it at the time of signing. i do not drive alot of miles every day or yearly, i have had my car since feb of 2011 my cpo will run out feb of 2014 and extended warranty will kick in for the remaining time that i will be paying off the car, which will be in feb of 2017. i seriously doubt that by 2017 i will not even have 80,000 miles on it. im at 38,880 miles now so since i have had it for the 17 to 18 months i have owned it, i only put on 9,000 miles. im not saying everyone should have an extended warranty but for me i think it is a good investment to have. imagine if i didnt get the extended warranty and after the cpo ran out i started having the carbon build up issues, a water pump failure or trans go out, i would have to shell out maby thousands of $$$ to fix it and if i couldnt afford to fix it i would have a nice ride just sittin in the garage and still making payments on something i cant even drive ( assuming the wort case here). they wanted almost 3% financing and by buying the extended warranty the finance charge was lowered to 1.9%, so the savings on the finance saved me some money and made since to just get the extended warranty. like i said , i think this was a good investment for me, i had so many cars before have major issues and ive even spent 4k on repairs before and i just didnt want to ever have to shell out any money on any repairs other than normal wear and tear. thanks for reading my long story! lol and by the way my lexus is a 2008 IS 250 with luxury package and navi.

Warranty
You dont need to buy your warranty from your local Lexus Dealer.
Jerry Johnson sold me my Lexus Platinum warranty for 1/3 of what my dealer wanted.
