Default Custom iPhone Dock

Here is my IPhone dock/Charger.

I had installed it as just a dock for the last couple years. Decided it was time to get rid of the wires for charging as well.
I got a cigarette lighter and spliced it into the bottom of the current cigarette lighter. I then used a USB charger in the cigarette lighter.

I drilled one hole at the bottom of the ashtray so the USB power cord could come up through from the bottom and then super glided the phone plug side to the bottom of the dock.

Even open without the IPhone plugged in, this setup looks oem. I love it.

I have a blackberry Bluetooth access to my music. So now I have absolutely no wires and full control from my phone.

Nice work

Looks clean. You don't have to worry with long cables plugged into your cigarette lighter

Very nice! Definitely a clean install, I like that you can still close the tray too!

All that I need to do in that case is take the iPhone dock out, and glue in the new dock that fits the new phone! All thought out. Haha. Unless I don't get another iPhone. But it def works for now. Plus couple log road trips coming up shortly so this will be extra nice on those. Just less to think about.

Very nice. I'm impressed. Where can I find a dock like you have inserted in the ash tray? I can't seem to find one that small.

It's one of the trays that comes with for example an ihome alarm. It comes with several different docks styles/sizes, iphone4, iphone3g, iPod 80gb, etc. I just grabbed an extra one that was laying around.

Gotcha. And I assume you just glued the iPhone 30-pin connector to the tray/adapter and glued the tray into the ash tray. Any mods to the adapter tray to make it fit?

Had to glue some project balsa wood to the inside the ashtray to get the tray/adapter to sit at the right hight. And had to make the hole where the light comes into the ashtray a bit bigger to get the USB through. The actual tray/adapter for the iPhone did not need modifying.
The hardest part is getting the 30pin to sit at the right hight so the phone sits snug and flush and then get it glued into place without it moving around.
