It's not an upgrade at all.

Your car is programmed for 91 octane, anything higher will do nothing but waste your money.

str8hust1a,

You're probably thinking more like Supreme Plus Chevron which is 94.

I always fill Chevron 94 because:
1) a FULL tank of 94 is about $2 more expensive than 91. Hardly worth losing sleep over.
2) 87/89/91 all come from the same pump that says "may contain 10% ethanol". I'm not sure if I want that in my car.

So even if there are no benefits whatsoever I just lose $2 per tank. Boo.

ps I'm not sure if 94 will cause more carbon buildup than 91 though. That would be my only worry.

the higher the octane, the slower it burn, so it burn more complete, less carbon buildup. if i have 93 over here, i would go for it

I use 93 since on the east we only have 87/89/93 at the pump. At $3.65 a gallon I'm still cheaper than regular in Ca hahaha...

Almost all (if not all) gas station's gas will do the job whether you fill shell, bp, chevron, mobil, etc. There difference is minimal if there is any difference at all. It's all about the brand name.

long standing and oft repeated myth, but not true at all.

Octane is a measure of resistance to detonation, not a measure of the speed at which the fuel burns in normal use..

(among myriad other sources explaining this)

Keep in mind, the fuel in Canada is slightly higher quality because Canada has stricter standards and is more regulated about the fuel additives.

Ie. Chevron Canada's 91/92 is better than Chevron US's 91 for instance.

$1 per litre, are you talking about driving down to the border to get gas?

Hope not. Seems like a not good use of of mileage plus the time time to drive simply to get gas, which would be slightly lower quality. If was one is already close to the immediate area, then it is more reasonable to do so.

Family members used to do exactly that when I was at a young age. It was more practical at the time, when I was doing doing activities up there there 2-3 times a week in Tsawwassen, where my parents would drive to the Pt. Robert's border cross which is a few KM a way. After I stopped doing activities up there, drive up there just for gas became gradually too much of a hassle that the family members stopped doing it.
