Default Car gone grazy!!!

Hi,

This morning I opened my IS250's door and the alarm starts going off. The car doesn't respond when I press the lock/unlock buttons on the key. Not knowing what I should do, I waited a minute or so and the alarm stopped. When I got into the car again and tried to start it, the HUD comes up with it's usual start up display but the car won't start, it only makes a "trrrrrrrr" noise. The starter motor does not turn.

And the alarm went off again. It was probably a bit of a stupid move, but I had my door closed when I tried to start and it locked me inside!!! Fortunately, after fiddling with the door handle and the key's buttons, putting the key very close to the start button etc. I got out again. The car was really going crazy - the HUD lights were going on and off, instrument lights flashing like a Christmas tree etc.

I'm thinking that the battery might be going. So I tested the battery and it had a good 12.5 to 13 volts on it. I couldn't measure the current unfortunately (my multi meter wouldn't be able to handle those amps). Did anyone experience this before? I saw a similar thread, but the guy never said whether it was the battery or something else.

I phoned Lexus who had serviced it a week ago and they just said "that sounds strange" and that they usually check if the car battery is OK within a service. They also said that the battery sometimes looks 100% but could fail at any time, which I think is BS, if the battery has good current and voltage, how could it just fail without warning?

Anyway, I'm waiting for a lift so that I can get the battery checked out. Will let you know what happens.

Sounds like a battery issue to me as well.

its not bs....they can still read the proper voltage without being able to put out the amperage......

So, it was the battery after all. Got a new one which was better suited to the vehicle and all is well now

That's why I said, if the battery has adequate voltage AND current it should be fine for a while at least. If they checked the battery they would have noticed the low amps it was putting out, which is what the battery center noticed immediately.

Anyhow, the problem is solved and thanks for the reply.
