Driving from SF bay area to San Diego this weekend and all I will be doing is checking all fluids and putting a little higher air pressure in the tires. Will also throw in the invisible glass spray and some towels for cleaning the bugs off of the windows.
Jeff
Be prepared for some extremely heavy thunderstorms in FL. I drove through the worst one in my life last Tuesday and another heavy one yesterday. They may only be about 10 miles wide and they move quickly, so you can wait for them to pass. I did see several crashed cars so be careful.
RainX and new wipers are a must, which you already did. I would also try to have as much tread depth on my tires as possible, like at least 6/32 inch.
Check the spare, bring a cell phone charger (just in case), and make sure you got all the standard stuff (registration, insurance, etc). Apply some blue tape to the front if you wish (I recommend it) and you should be good to go.
Even with a fresh wax it is love bug season down here now and they will get that front end so if your not willing to tape the front end spray some "PAM" on the front end or stop occasionally for a wash. Coffee and a gatorade bottle will be handy if your like me and try to make it in less then 20 hours
wow so much people with the blue tape...is it that bad? won't it look so odd, ppl would be looking at u with weird looks, no?
Bad for what? lol
Yes it will attract attention....but who cares ...i think most people know what the blue tape is for, I see a few cars rocking blue tape when traveling between Norcal and Socal. At least at the end of the day, clean up of the bugs is super quick and you won't have a bunch of tiny chips all over the front end!
I have a 2010 IS250 AWD with 28,500 miles and this weekend weekend i'll be driving nonstop from Wayne, NJ to Miami, FL (about 1300 miles).
Other then a JoeZ intake with the f sport cutout mod and 5000K HID lights (55w in headlights, 35w in fog lights) the car is all stock.
What do you do to prepare your IS for a long trip?
This is what i've done so far:
Oil and filter change (Mobil 1 5w30, oem oil filter)
Rotated and Balanced tires
4 Wheel alignment
Replaced cabin air filter
New K&N Engine air filter
Replaced Wiper blades and applied Rain X to all windows
Set front tires to 35psi, rear to 38psi (while tires are cold)
Checked all fluid levels
Checked front and rear brakes
Checked front and rear suspension components.
Wash and Wax car (used Turtle Wax Black Box)
Any other recommendations?
I think you have everything covered lol thats more than I did when I took my old Acura for a 12k mile 1 month trip
