Question ECT Power vs. ECT Normal MPG

So, I just finished my second tank of gas with ECT Power. I have been trying to determine which mode gets better MPG, ECT Power or ECT Normal. Some MPG info. that I posted can be found here:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...n-braking.html

With this second tank of gas, my calculator indicates that I got a combined 23.15 MPG, while my car's calculations indicate 22.90. However, I am back to my usual driving conditions (way more highway driving than previously). Perhaps ECT Power does get better MPG, but not much. Maybe 1 - 2 MPG at most. Though, I must say, ECT Normal is much more comfortable for daily driving vs. ECT Power.

Well, since ECT PWR makes the car revv higher into the gears and downshift quicker, you should be seeing less MPG with the ECT PWR on. But if your driving slowly, it probably won't be that much of a decrease. I don't use ECT PWR unless i want to do a little more "spirited" driving. ECT Normal mode is much better for daily driving when your just cruising around. I also use ECT SNOW for bumper to bumper traffic so the car accelerates slower and doesn't always keep going into 1st gear either....makes things much smoother in traffic! I get better MPG in ECT normal mode though, because when ECT PWR is on, i'm always driving the car harder anyways lol.

Sometimes a reply to a post is so good there is nothing else to say.

Great reply KillaIS250!

I gave up trying to find the answer. But popular belief here in our forum is that ECT normal gives better mileage and it's much better to drive the car in. I too feel the same and I'm always driving in ECT normal mode only.

I started driving with ECT normal instead of ECT power and I think it's helped increase my MPG. With ECT power on, it's harder to slowly accelerate since the pedal's much more responsive, therefore using up more gas.

I just finished my 2nd tank on ECT power and the mileage was almost the same as normal. I switched back to normal for smoothness of operation, but it does have more jump on power mode with the quick down shift.

It is physically impossible for ECT power to give increased mpg's. All things the same (conditions, speed, miles driven, ratio of hwy to city, etc...), the settings for ECT power hold the car at higher RPMs for a longer period of time, shifts into a lower gear sooner, and uses the engine (hence, more gas) to assist with braking. If you are getting better mpg's using ECT power, it's because you have changed the initial conditions such as driving more highway miles on that particular tank of gas. Either that or you're REALLY bad at math...

So it's physically impossible for ECT snow to give your worse mpg then?

Well, like I said, I get maybe 1 - 2 MPG more, at the sacrifice of comfort. Driving with ECT Power was REALLY uncomfortable, which explains why I went back to ECT Normal.
