Default buying used

i know everyone who decides to buy used wants the miles on the odometer as low as possible...but i found a good deal on a 2006 IS350 with a lot of miles on her (91,378 miles). She has a clean carfax and seemed well taken care of as far as i can tell from the 20 minute test drive i had with the car. The high miles really do concern me, i would just like some of the forums advice and opinions on the thought process of a purchase like this, thanks everyone.

Get the VIN and try and check the service history of the car. High miles don't mean sudden death anymore. If there is good service history and the deal is good, I'd say go for it.

Personally, I am against the idea of purchasing a pre-owned car with such high miles. But that's just me. Of course, if it's a good deal, and you like the car, just execute! Good luck and all the best.

+1 - To check the service history go to Lexus' website (link below, register, throw in the VIN, and you may be able to see an extensive history of the vehicle if it has been serviced at Lexus dealerships. It's a very useful tool.

Got few things to consider.
1. Price - have you shop around for same type of car but maybe much less miles.
2. These are very reliable cars- meaning if well maintain/taken care of, it may go over 200k miles without any serious issues (engine/trans.)
3. Don't rush into something you will regret in the future.
4. No more warranty- that means you are on your own once you close the deal.

Good luck

Used the link that (greg0126) posted, thanks (greg0126) it was very useful and informative. The history on the vehicle looks very good, it seems that the two previous owners were very good at servicing the car on a regular basis and at the same certified lexus dealer for the past five years. Even the recall for the fuel pressure bolt was fixed and the recall for the break fluid leak was fixed also. Thanks everyone for all the help, i will test drive the car again and let you guys know what happens....dont worry (kingster) ive learned my lesson on rushing into a car purchase the hard way and im not gonna make that same mistake again.

that's the part that makes me laugh a bit. I'm selling my IS with higher miles (due to the work I do) and I hear some crazy things from potential buyers.

I've got records of maint/services everything just short of it's last car wash and people respond with the, yeah wellllll it's over 100K...soooo 8,000 dollars is what I can offer

pound sand buddy.

Cars were meant to be driven, just do your research, and all you can do from there is pull the trigger. Good luck with your buy

The dealer has reduced the price and will sell to me for $15,480, but the car dos have over 90,000 miles. It has the heated seats, sun roof, 18in. alloys with new tires, tinted windows. Interior is what i would call in excelent shape, the leather seats have very minimal wear on them and the rear seats look like no one has ever sat on them before. there is no warranty but the dealer says that he will let me take the car for a whole day and take it to a mechanic of my choice and get it inspected if i want to. Is there any voluntary factory recalls in particular that i should really look out for?

is there a lexus dealership nearby? I would take it for the day, and pay to have a PPI done.

Start here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...is-models.html

Check the car and it's history for all the common issues listed there.

Getting a pre-purchase inspection at a Lexus dealer is an absolute must.

I would check the service history and spend the $$ to have it inspected at the local lexus dealership. It shouldn't be more than $100. These cars are solid so I wouldn't worry to much about the miles if the service history is there. There are many members with well over 100K. I'm at 75 now and still runs like day 1

Same here.
Especially a luxury vehicle.Even if it's an entry level luxury vehicle.Parts and repair costs are high.
