Hazardous navigation computer problem
Thanks to all the helpful people. I appreciate your suggestions! To everyone else, I just hope it doesn't happen to you...if it does, then maybe you will gain some perspective. (BTW Timbo IS- I have never had an accident, gotten a speeding ticket, etc....can you say the same?)
Well, I do hate when things break right after they go out of warranty. It's like the manufacturer make it to last as long as the warranty. At least Lexus wants willing to give 1/2 price on parts. I wonder if you can get the part half price and install it yourself so you don't have to pay labor. It should be pretty easy to install once you take out the vents.
All comments are welcome but please get back to the topic in helping OP a constructive solution for her problem. Any personal attacks are not tolorated.
Thank you

As someone else mentioned, if you can get the part for 1/2 price (I'm guessing that's a whole new head unit) you should be able to replace it yourself (or have someone do it for much cheaper than the dealer.) Good luck in your efforts to get this resolved!
Alisa, since the concern at this point is from a safety point of view, if it were me, I'd go ahead and pay the 1200 to fix it, express my gratitude for being offered half of the repair and be less stressed.
My SUV had an issue with the dash cluster. The speedometer showed that I was going 120 mph (I swear I wasn't) and the gas gauge stopped working. I ended up relying on the flow of traffic to keep to speed and pen and paper to keep track of my mileage before I would burn out my gas pump.
Calls to Chevrolet were fruitless and I just did not want to fork out the $1100 or so to fix it. When my son got his license and was going to drive this vehicle I realized that it's time to get a new cluster.
I paid to have it done, and to my dismay the gas gauge still was not working. I was then informed that it had to be the sending unit inside of the gas tank. Another $800.
I waited a few days then lo and behold a surprise came in the mail. Chevy had acknowledged there was an issue with the gas gauge display and that because my vehicle was out of warranty and I had complained, they will help with the bill.
They only charged me $200. How it broke down was, I was going to pay half for the sending unit and then I got a little bit of refund for the cluster.
I lucked out.
And you lucked out too. Maybe not everyone will get the offer of a discounted price.

Your out of warranty. Sucks but it is what it is. If they warrantied everything that is not under warranty business wouldn't be very profitable. Take the half they are offering you. Or try the fix like the other guy did and save 1200 bucks. OR keep the cardboard in your luxury car. Either way stay outta on commin traffic its dangerous
