Low tire pressure monitor question
The low tire pressure came on today on our new 2011 IS350 when my fiance left for work this morning. Since I was at work and couldn't verify whether tire pressure was low, I told her to take the car to the dealer to have it checked. It turns out that the light comes on when there is a 6 pound variance on tire pressure (psi shoud be 36 lbs, tires were at 30 lbs). The dealer added 6 pounds of air, and also told us that cold weather can trigger the low pressure light to come on.
We live in the Sacramento valley, where temperatures aren't exactly frigid. My question is whether those of you living in truly cold climates have an issue with the low pressure light coming on frequently???

I put extra air in right before winter begins. It's not the best idea since over-inflating can be bad for snow traction and that stuff. My low pressure light comes on pretty frequently. Mostly it appears every 2 months or so right after a chilly day.
Those living in cold climates shouldn't have it coming too frequently if it stays cold all the time. Tires loose air anyways over time and when temps get a little colder and it drops below 30 or so PSI, then the light comes on.

It was 73* when i left for work this morning does that count as extreme cold? It got up to 81* by lunch time and my TPMS never went on.... I check mine frequently so i havent seen that light in quite some time.

To all,
Thanks for your feedback! The car is garaged, so I didn't think the pressure sensor would be that sensitive to weather. Then again, we've had the car 3 months and I hadn't checked the pressure yet(1,900 mles on the car now). I'll check the pressure weekly now.
Thanks again to everyone!

Not to thread jack, but I have another question regarding TPMS. Is the TPMS warning a deletable OBDII code? I got new wheels, and don't feel like putting in new sensors at the moment, and the warning sign is annoying to view on the display screen in the dash. Thanks guys

Don't think soo. There is a thread somewhere around here about addressing this issue.. Forgot the name of it, but the sensors are placed into a small PVC pipe capped off on both sides and filled up with air... Kinda like a lil pipe bomb. If you get some extra sensors you can do that or get the stock ones removed from the stock wheels
