Default Headlight Issues

Hi All,

I have a 2007 IS250. For the last 6 months or so, I've been having intermittent issues with my headlights. When the car turns on, they both come on fine. Sometimes they will stay on fine during my whole drive. More often though, I will have one or the other go out randomly. If I click them off and on, the light will work again for a while and then go off again. The lights are projecting fine when they are on, and they are bright. The thing that confuses me more than anything is that it's not always the same light.. it can be either one, but they never both go out at the same time.

Any ideas?

Thanks..

Daniel

Sounds like you have stock HIDs, if I'm not mistaken. From the looks of it, you have some sort of electrical issue. Either that, or both your ballasts are bad (unlikely, but not impossible). Have you tried taking it to Lexus and see what they say? If you're under warranty, I'm sure they'll cover the issue.

could be just your bulbs, just buy a new pair of bulbs, swap them out (its in the manual how to do it) and if they work then fine, if they don't work then it could be something else.

Yes, they are the stock HID's. I'm assuming it's an electrical problem as well because of the randomness of it all. I haven't taken it to Lexus.. How much do the HID bulbs cost to replace?

Aftermarket bulbs aren't too pricey. You can find a decent brand for 100 or less. Check our vendors.

i have the same issues as described. in my research i found that 99% of the time its the bulbs. it doesnt sound like its a ballast issue especially if both are going bad. in talking with the dealership, they dont replace many ballasts. usually its the bulbs, which is good because they are a lot cheaper than new ballasts especially aftermarket. a lot of people recomend the garaxe 6000. i think $90 for a pair. hope this helps.

p.s. i havent had time to change my bulbs out yet...i will let you know if that fixes the problem. sounds like the early IS's need new HID's already. this topic comes up weekly.
