Default Alternative to DIY short shifter!

I wanted to shorten the stock height of the shifter, but didn't want to hack off part of the threads on the post. If you don't get that cut just right you'll booger up the threads and won't be able to screw the **** back on. So, I don't know if this has been done before, but I stuck a screw driver in the **** and measured the inside depth vs. the length of the ****. You have about 3/4 in. of extra plastic at the top of the ****. So I carefully inserted a 3/16 drill bit inside the **** and extended the interior length a bit. I was careful not to touch the threads on the sides of the tube.

This was my first mild go at it... I may go deeper in the future.

Very easy mod to do.

Nice...inserting a sleeve in the **** before drilling would probably help from messing up the threads inside the know. I'll give it a try.

Shouldn't be. I had some plastic shavings fall out of the ****. This was my first, "I hope I don't screw up this ****" try. When I get some free time, I'll drop it down to the deck

I did this right after I read your post on Friday and it works great. There is really no way to screw up the inside threads unless you're just an idiot. I just put the drill but in there and had at it. I checked the depth a couple time with a screw driver. Mine is slightly lower than your sbut the lowest you can go is when it's in the parked position as that's where it angles. In drive it's straight up and down. The bottom of mine is almost touching the shift gate but may an 1/8 above. Have have to really turn it thought to get it that deep.
