Default Anyone ever try this: shift boot for the shifter?

Surfing overboost.com this morning and came upon a black gs400 with this: TRD shift *** and a shift boot:
Anyone ever try this? I think it looks much better than our current bezel. I might try it as a project.....

I believe that's Martin Kraft's right? I think a couple have people have done it with an NSX shift boot and bezel.

Yeah Dave, now that I look back at Overboost, I see it is Martin Craft's GS. Where can I find a shift boot to match my stock shift ***? I kinda want to do this

I really like the look of that shifter. If you decide to do it, write up a DYI for the rest of us mod hungry fools here on CL.

Here's my Momo shift **** and Momo boot.

It requires removal of the " PRND321" bezel underneath where the boot now is located. From what I remember, no tools are required to remove the bezel.

The shifter boot really changes the look of the interior of the car in a positive way, I like it

i dunno, it looks cool i guess, but a real standard shift boot is more wider then it is tall, or at least more squared out i believe, so with this shift boot it looks a little funny IMO.

I just had a shop custom make me a GS boot. We're still thinking about how we can securely install it. Right now we can only glue it.

I'll post pics tonight.

Well since I got the Momo shift ****, the momo shift boot has an aluminum sleeve that replaces the standard bottom piece that screws onto the ****. So the boot is attached to the **** with this sleeve.

There are universal boots out there that you could try with the stock shift ****.

The key thing to focus here is to have the boot fit the rectangular hole of the console. The boot is actually not even attached to the console. You can pull more material out or push it downwards. You just need to play with it until it looks right.

I'll have to check with my dealer, I think they ordered a particular model of boot since I think there is more than one type available.

If you can get a store to let you fit a boot before buying it, that would be good.

Default Instructions: By memory

This is from memory, so if I missed something or you have questions just let me know.:

1. The silver trim ring (black or chrome on everyone else's car) is plastic. Just grab the top nearest the ashtray and pull towards the rear of the car. It is flexible. Once you get the top loose, you'll figure out the rest.

2. Pull the ashtray out. See another recent post on how to do this.

3. Pull the woodgrain center console out by prying up the rear nearest to the center arm rest. There are clips on both sides. Disconnect the VSC switches and other wiring. They are all plug in, so you just need to find the tab that locks the plug in place and just squeeze it and pull at the same time.

4. The center shifter cover is held on with tabs on all four corners. Just pry up gently with a small screwdriver.

5. The whole center piece (The one that says PRND321) is left off along with the lighting for it.

6. Now just play with the boot to see how to fold it , such that it allows the shifter to move from park to 1st gear without bunching up.

That's it.

I remember reading a thread a while ago, that a boot cover from an Acura NSX will fit perfectly.
Anyone else remember that, or am I just ??

I had the MOMO leather shift boot and shifter on my car and it looked very sweet. Sold the shift boot and shifter when I parted everything from the car. It's one mod that looks really nice for the interior.

the NSX boot fits the rectangular shape of the shifter, however the leather is not as tall as it needs to be. Therefore when you shift into lower parts of the gear, like 2 and L, you'll be stretching it to the limit. I'm not even sure if they will be ok under that much stress.

When I had my boot made I especially told them that I will be shifting down to 2 and L alot, so they will measure it and make it right so it won't be stretched too badly.
