next car...
So I have an 06 is350 with lux package and navi with 70k miles. I think I can get $20k for the car (plus or minus). I was just wondering, is there any other car out there worth looking at? I don't want an IS-F because of the gas. I would also preferably not want a new car payment.
I was thinking about a used G37 but other than that, I don't know what else to get.
any suggestions?
Thanks for the input.

Your answer to that question will guide the discussion. For example, are you looking to get a new car because this one isn't sporty enough? Then the answer might be X. Are you looking to get a new car because this one's too expensive to repair out of warranty? Then the answer might be Y.
I will say that a 2006 IS350 with only 70k miles will more than likely last you for a long, long time with relatively few headaches. There are CL users with 250k miles or more on their cars who have had almost no problems. Looking to get a new car just because you're "bored" with your current car isn't a great reason, particularly when used car prices are so high right now (and you said you'd want to look used).
You have to first start out by asking and answering this question: why are you looking at getting a new car in the first place?

Overall, I just don't feel very happy with the car. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind another 2IS. Maybe I'll wait till the next gen...
Earlier this year I had the itch to trade in my IS250 for something sportier. I test drove a G37 coupe, base C6 and 370z. Sure, they were much faster and I would have fun for a while with all that power, but you know what I realized? I REALLY missed Lexus' build quality and ergonomics. To me, it made sense to keep my IS250 as a daily driver. But I still had an itch for something different. So I got an S2000 as my weekend car. I am SOOO happy with this setup right now.

It all depends what you are looking for as the above posts mentioned. You have to ask yourself what the purpose is, Every car has a purpose, and your reason for switching will greatly influence your decision in the car. FOr example if you are starting a family, you will need something bigger, If the car isnt sporty/fast enuff you will need to spend more and not factor in gas milage, Whether it be the build quality or reliability of the car, or whether you wanna just try something else. In the end, only you know what you want.

I'm looking to sell the car because the time I've owned it, I've had some bad luck with it. Repairs with the navi, now my speakers are cutting in and out, its been hit 3 times (not my fault, people keep hitting it with their car), and a couple of miscellaneous things that get on my nerves like a dash rattle and something with my side mirrors.

The only problem is that I don't know of a car that's comparable out there that would be more reliable than a Lexus. It sounds like unfortunately you 1) got an IS with more issues than average, and 2) you had some bad luck with accidents, which doesn't have anything to do with the car but it can associate your car with bad feelings.
The cars I hear compared against the IS350 on CL are the G37, 335i, C350, A4, TL, Mustang, etc. Problem is that none of those models are in general known to be MORE reliable than the IS350, and to move to any of those cars would entail trade-offs. To move to the G37, C350, A4, or TL you'd lose power/performance, and to move to the C350 and A4 you'd be moving to makes/models with even lower reliability than than the IS. To move to the 335i would increase performance but at the expense of far worse reliability and higher repair/maintenance costs. The Mustang isn't really comparable as it's two doors, and you'd take a step up in performance but down in luxury.
I can't really think of any car that I could recommend that would be comparable on general characteristics (doors, size, luxury, performance) while being at least as or more reliable. That doesn't surprise me though, because that's the exact reason I bought the IS350 myself. I went through this same decision process and considered all the above cars, but when it came down to it the IS350 was the best option.
That's not to say of course that I recommend you stay with your current car if that's not what you want to do. But I do think if you move out of that car to another you'll need to accept trade-offs.
I'm starting to think that I have no real choices yet. All the other cars don't seem to look as nice and have the same value as the 2IS. I'm really leaning towards holding it for a while and sell it when the new 3IS comes out.
This car is still amazing to me but I've just had some misfortunes. Hopefully I can hold off till the new one drops!!
But really... no one likes the G37 it seems like. To me, it looks great and has similar features but I only like the coupe G37. The sedan doesn't look sporty at all to me but I'd really like another 4 door automatic.
Guess I'll be holding on to this for a while....
Thanks for the input guys!
