I bought a 2006 IS250 a few days ago and I have a question around the front park distance control.
The rear park distance system is working perfectly and is very helpful however, either the front ones are broken, or they are non existent. I can see the sensors on the front bumper (four of them) - they look exactly the same as the rear ones, so it looks like they are there but they don't sense anything. I even asked a friend to put his hand over them to see if it beeps but nothing happens.
The car does not have the LCD screen with the reverse cam and it doesn't have the park distance control option in the satellite menu. The rear PDC works with a bunch of LED's that I can see through the rear view mirror indicating which side is getting close to an object as well as the beeps.
How can I determine whether it has front PDC or not? Is it de-activated somehow? How can I activate them? I can't seem to find this information anywhere.
Sounds custom. But try this, to the left of the steering wheel there is a little round button with two button on the left and right of it. Hit the center button and toggle thru the options (displays on the gauge cluster). If you do have the oem option of "park assist" it may or may not be enabled. But most every IS I see with park assist, there is no LED indicator, which makes me think previous owner added sensors

Thanks for your advice man. I think this round button you mentioned is called the 'satellite swithes/buttons'. When I go through the options it only shows the tach indicator and speed indicator options, nothing about park assist which also makes me think that it was added after market. The manual also doesn't say anything about the LED's.

No problem. Yea the satellite switch. Def an aftermarket set-up
The factory parking assist on has 2 sensors on front, so I'm guessing yours is after market.
So true but these 2 factory sensors up front are not that effective. They are only good at detecting poles on the sides. It would never sound an alarm when the bumper nears a slightly high curb up front. Its something i hate most although i have not hit a curb yet as i park my car nearly a mile away from the curbs :-P
sounds kinda cool though...could u post pics on what the setup looks like? I'm interested lol
Sure, I will take some pics over the weekend. I fiddled around with the LED distance indicator at the back and I would never have guessed that it wasn't done by Lexus.
Then I made a great discovery! At the front, right between the windscreen and the speaker in the middle of the dash there is a wire sticking out with a plug very similar to the one at the back, that can only mean that it has front PDC but the front LED unit is just plugged out.
Now to find out where I can buy the front LED unit
Is it possible the car was involved in an accident and they replaced the bumpers with ones designed for parking sensors, but the sensors weren't actually installed?
