Hey everybody!

I got my new wheels on the IS250 and I'm planning on doing a photoshoot once I get back to the States.

Before I do that though, I want to fix all the chips and scratches in the paint. I've been looking around for a product for this and I keep seeing Dr Colorchip come up. Has anyone tried it? If so, does it work? If not, are there any other things I can try to get the paint looking good again? (I've already gone over the car with rubbing compound, it helped but not enough for what I have)

I've been meaning to get some myself. I've seen a few people on here say it works pretty well for small rock chips and its probably the best solution other than having your bumpers repainted.

 

I ordered mine and just got it. I'm about to try it but waiting for the sun to go down a little. Will report back with results. BTW, my car is tungsten pearl.

 

it works better on darker colours.

Doesn't shine as much as oem paint which is noticeable on bigger repairs, but not chips...

 

I liked it on my Tungsten Pearl. It's hard to fill the chips level to the OEM paint, but the color match is very good and you really have to look for the chips after.
I didn't do too many on the bumper, but it seemed like it worked better on the metal hood than it did on the plastic bumper.

 

Just did a little on mine. I followed the directions but noticed little to no effect. Well it colors in the rock chips slightly, but you can still notice it. I have Tungsten Pearl. I even did it twice. I can say that the rock chips are 30% less visible so I guess it isn't completely worthless.

I tried it on my side mirrors, front bumper, and hood. No effect on mirrors, slight improvement on hood, and better on bumper. I guess its because the bumper is black under the paint. I've seen on threads that it works better on darker colors like obsidian.

Diablo, anything special in the way you applied it?

 

not really, I just did 3-4 coats and waited like 20 minutes for it to set up for each coat. also I tried to apply & wipe the paint in the same direction the chip, so from front bumper back toward windshield. I guess the results are subjective. I sure wish it worked better by being "thicker" and level to the original paint. but at least the chips don't stand out so much after. You may want to try the Langka system, may be theres some vids on youtube.

Works better on metal panels, but even after 3 coats i still can't get it leveled out. A passing eye won't notice small chips, but if you're trying to find it, it will def still be there.

 

We used dr color chip on our blue onyx pearl is an it worked great. From close up, it's not flawless but from a few feet away it looks a lot better. And no ugly paint blobs. We also used langka on the bigger chips and that turned out pretty well too. Highly recommend especially if you have a darker color.

 

^^^yupp i got the kit for my sgm and it worked great from afar. Close up its somewhat noticable but from far away it is way better. Definitely something to get for dark cars.

 

It works great as far as a touch up paint goes. Mainly on the small stuff like mentioned above. Also note, on the pearled white colors, the paint wont match. They will send an off white that sort of gives the impression, but it's not perfect. Either way, I recommend it.

 

Thats good to know that it works well on the darker colors since mine is SGM. I'll see if I can do some before and after pics on it...

Does Dr Colorchip work much better than OEM touch up paint?

 

It's not as thick. It a bit watery so you can shape it into the rock chip. I don't know if its better in that regard.
