How far have you driven on empty?

I have an IS350 and was just curious how far anyone has driven when the low fuel light comes on. I got down to 1 mile on the "Approx Range" running errands the other day. Was curious if people have driven it to zero? If so, how far did you go after zero? My brother's wife constantly drives her Mercedes like 10 miles past the zero mark. Any others do something similar?

I usually drive until the empty light comes on, then get gas. I never push it tho because I've heard it isn't good for the engine since it would be using the gas on the bottom of the fuel tank, which is dirty. Also, you don't wanna run out of gas with no gas station near by.

I always got scared when I get near 0 for range. One time I barely made it to the pump, it turned 0 at the red light before the station and I was like, "Crap"! Didn't want to push it 200 feet, so close. But I made it. However, my friend recently drove to my house for stuff and I noticed he was at 0 but he said you can go far even at 0. So I tested it out mostly since I was broke, and I got 20 miles after it reached 0 range. Just wanted to refill since I have no clue how much farther I could go.

It'll keep going for 30-50 miles at most but doing so too often is bad for the fuel pump apparently. Once in a while, it's okay. Pretty much why my refills are 15.4 gallons when the capacity is 17.1.

I get about 360 miles on a tank of gas. When it hits 0, I got for about 40 more just to make 400. I could probably go 50 but 40 is ok with me hah!!

I have also heard that it's bad for your fuel pump to run too low as the gas helps keep the fuel pump from overheating. I think gas is cheaper than replacing a fuel pump.

Seriously?!? Good to know! Like a few others, I was crapping my pants when I hit 1 and babied it to the next gas station.

Also, is there any truth to the fuel pump being damaged by running low on gas? I mean, like maintenance/experience with having a pump replaced on an IS? I haven't seen this mentioned in any of the threads I've read through. And what is "low"? Is it waiting until the gas light comes on or running it past zero on the "est range"?

I am not sure but don't we have like 17 gallons? When i hit 0, I usually put full tank of gas but it always stops around 15 gallon ish. so that means we still have two gallons? idk... I am not sure about this.

Most cars have about a gallon reserve left in the tank after zero. Yes it is bad for your fuel pump if you run your tank empty alot.
