I did like the op showed, holds the Samsung reasonably snug. I was able to remove the metal piece with my finger by lifting up on it with my finger.

Default Glad the post helped!

I'm glad to see that everyone's able to use this "mod". It's even better that I posted this over 5 years ago and it's finally picked up traction. Hahah!

But it's also pretty cool that even with the new larger phones all of us are still able to use this spot to put our phones without scratching it. I think I had an iPhone 4 when I originally posted this thread and now have the six. I think someone said they had a Samsung which has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to big phones and even theirs fits, albeit snug.

I didn't notice the original post date, but a good trick like this is timeless. Thanks.

My wife drives the IS most of the time and has a Samsung Galaxy 6S with a plastic shock case on it and it fits in there with a little room to spare. I have a Moto G3 which is bigger than the Galaxy, also with a shock case, and it fits like it was custom made for it.

Ran my charging wire from under the armrest console to the ashtray so now I can also charge my phone while my it sits in the ashtray!
