^ Sit in the driver's seat and use your knees to pop the steering wheel off, while using your hands to make sure it doesn't smack you in the face once it comes comes loose. Slowly remove the steering wheel and then tape the steering column so that it doesn't spin and stays in its original position.

It's not as scary/hard as it sounds.

I was watching the video and it looked like he loosened the 19mm bolt wiggled it off a bit , then took the bolt the rest of the way off and pulled off the steering wheel, it didnt look as if he taped anything. Will it be straight forward as to what i will need to tape?

^ The inner part of steering column spins. Don't let it spin. The tape is just a precaution so that it doesn't spin.

Anyone have pics of what exactly is not suppose to spin? Sewell makes it look way too easy in their video.

I just bought the flat bottom all leather black stitching and IS-F steering damper.
The install is over my head.
If done professionally, how long would it take?1 hour,90 minutes...

Joe you can do it yourself. It will literally take 45 minutes. I've done it 3 times now on others cars but this is the first time I've heard of the spindle not allowed to spin. I never payed attention in the past and thus I bumped this thread for more input.

Make sure when you do the install your wheels are pointed straight, then when you take the steering wheel off the steering column just make sure nothing spins. It's kind of hard to describe in words but the top of the steering column has a part that rotates, you have to keep it in the neutral position. Use some tape to hold it in place if you're worried.

It's someone intimidating since you have to disconnect the battery and all, but it really is an easy DIY. 1 hour for the first time, 20 minutes after that.

Dudes, the steering wheel literally takes like 5 mins to take off. I installed my carbon fiber flat bottom steering wheel and total time with controls transplanted from OEM to new steering wheel was like 30-45 mins.

This plastic part with the wires connected to it, spins freely. The bolt lug you see in the middle doesn't move at all, with the car off and battery disconnected of course. Its nearly impossible to misalign the new steering wheel when you install it as the bolt lug has groves, so you can't put it on wrong.

Just loosen that nut you see in the first pic. Then you have to wiggle and pull and wiggle and pull, kinda like in the Sewell video. Its hard to get off but it will eventually. GL

No, it does spin freely. But you have to keep it in the same position in order for the new steering wheel to line up with the wires.

If the spiral cable (some refer to it as the clockspring) is not in the same position when you put the steering wheel back on (for example you turn it 360-degrees one way), it will break. It can only turn so far in each direction from centre. It needs to be centered when the steering rack is centered. Leaving it in exactly the same spot is your best bet for this. Don't try to turn it.

^ And if you do break it, expect to shell out big $$$ for a replacement. AMHIK.
