Scratch Removal on Chrome Emblems

I have some minor scratches on some of the "chrome" emblems on my 2IS (I'm most concerned about the chrome "L" on my steering wheel). Would a scratch removal product like Scratch X do any good? I'm worried it would just wear the "chrome" coating down. Thanks!

i took a look at my stock grill sitting on a shelf and i got green stuff growing on the L, its all rotten now... maybe when took off the stock grill i shoulda used plastidip for storage...

i wouldnt try scratchX, try a more finer polish first

A polish is an abrasive and although ScratchX isn't technically an abrasive, it utilizes micro-abrasives so I would think that any of these products will sort of wear down on the surface.

Despite this, I think you should be fine using it unless you intend to polish your emblems every week!

If you have any spare emblems or chrome pieces lying around, maybe you can test it out on that first.

^ Yeah, I figured there would be some level of wear. I just wonder if they would help fix the scratches at all, or if the coating is just way too thin.

I do have my old grille with the emblem on it, so I suppose I'll try that first. Thanks!

I hate chrome so i used ultra fine sand paper on my steeringwheel emblem to make it look more brushed. Works for me and i like the look. I had it plastidipped for a week and took it off, but it actually looked cool, might redo it.

Edit: The coating is very very thing. One section i hit a little too hard and got down too low very easily

I tried some Scratch X on my steering wheel emblem the other day. The good news is that it didn't damage the coating, the bad news is that it didn't remove any scratches either.

Ancient thread bump. So I installed a rep Wald spoiler. This as you may know, requires removing the L emblem from your trunk and placing it onto the spoiler. When I took mine off, I broke it.

So I ordered some used ones for $10.00. Problem is, they are lightly scratched. Any suggestions on removing the scratches? I'm about it try polishing it with rubbing compound. Can practice on my broken emblem.
