Default Unique problem with ML sub..

The sub has blown already once before under warranty... Lately now the sub seems to be no where near as loud as it used to be on the same bass setting it has always been on. On deep low bass it pounds, but with other frequncies it doesn't seem like its producing bass or its much quieter than before. Its really hard to explain. Can a sub exhibit this symptom? I hope I don't have to buy a new sub, but I want the 4080 box so bad but with JL sub and JL amp and local install. i dont want to spend $1800 though.

I used to have 2 jl 12's in my old audi, with components in all 4 doors and rear deck. miss that stereo. but also am not wishing put down $1800 quite yet if someone else knows what could be wrong and if there is a cheaper way the time to remedy it. I have new home expenses, and not much extra cash at the moment.
