Default Xenon ballast swap

Hi all! new to this forum after purchasing a 2006 IS 350. I am very satisfied with the vehicle so far but I have a couple questions regarding the xenon headlights (tried the search function but could not find any info). The headlights on my vehicle turn off at random times at night while driving. The driver's light shuts off the majority of the time, but the passenger one shuts off as well and light up again once I swith off and on. I am almost positive it is the ballasts and just wanted to know if there is any way I could replace the ballasts. I have access to a set of denso ballasts from another 350 and have removed the headlights only to find that the ballast is under the housing itself, and looks quite complicated to remove. Has anyone ever swapped ballasts successfully?

Are you sure its the ballasts? There was another thread on this issue and a lot of people, including myself, found that the bulbs were just going bad and needed replaced. Have you changed the bulbs yet to see if that fixes the problem?

Had an OEM bulb acting weird in a similar way, replaced it and now it's all better.

Interesting. I have not changed the bulbs yet but I may have to give that a shot. Thanks for the input guys!

The OEM xenon bulbs are 5400K D4S, correct?

OEM is 4300K if I'm not mistaken.

It could possibly be the ballist thou. I just got my car 2 months ago and had the issue , made the dealer replace the bulbs and still having that same issue happened about 5x now sadly 2x when driving made me look Very uncool infront of my friends.. But going to the dealer next week hopefully wont have a issue getting it replaced.

If it does turn out to be the ballast I know from personal experience that you can replace the ballast, in fact you already did the hardest part which was taking the headlight off.

Well, I swapped the bulbs out this morning and found that the same pattern occurs. The driver's headlight turns off in approximately 10 minutes, while the passenger's side turns off in like 12 minutes (same as before). Bummer!

king06, I would love any info you have on replacing the ballasts! Thanks!
