Red face Question About Offsets

Newbie Question: Re: rim offsets, if a rim has more offset (+), it pushes the rim farther out from the fenders, right? And less offset the rim sits in closer into the car right? No?

The lower the offset, the further out it's going to stick. Factory offsets on the ISx50 are over +40... guys who run low offsets (+15 or so) make their wheels run flush.

no your statement is backwards. positive offset means the wheel is going to be more sunken in, and negative offsets means the rim will be push farther out away from your car.

if you want "poke" you go to a lower offset, example: negative offsets gives you a huge lip because the rim extends so far away

use this calculator to calculate your offests:

http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

in addition the picture on that link might help you understand it more. just plug in numbers until you understand how offsets work

so then a higher offset means that you may rub when making turns right? I am thinking of getting 50 offset wheels but it needs spacers right? is that safe? do I also need longer bolts?

that "+5" means that the inside pad of the wheel is bringing the wheel barrel 5mm farther inside the car.

you won't have issues w/ the fender, but you will have issues clearing suspension and brake components.

you forgot~

BUT running such +45-50 offsets will NOT give you the flush look at all.

i get the feeling I should just powercoat my stock rims, and just move on.....They have lots of curb rash and are some of the 2006s that have the paint bubbling and peeling, but now I am out of warranty and stuck with them. It seems buying used rims for this car is complicated.

it's not as complicated as you may think.

i recommend taking the time to read and research wheel fitment topics before choosing the right spec'd wheels for your 2is. there's also a wealth of knowledge in the 2is section (as long as you can filter out the rest of the useless noise) that can be accessed w/ the search function.

if all else fails, throw up a thread.
