Default 2IS Depreciation?

I decided, after much looking around that my next car is gonna be another IS - this time a 350 or an F

In 3 years time, what do you guys estimate the price of an 09-10 IS350 and and 08-09 ISF?

Reason why I'm saying 3 years from now is because I'll have my B.S. and can get a decent job

According to Nostradamus we'll be gone in 3 years.. And you're already deciding on your next car? With our economy looking the way it is, who knows if we'll even have decent jobs available for when we're out of college. Not to burst your bubble or anything but isn't it a bit soon to be deciding what ride you'll be in three years from now?

spend your money now, the world ends in 2012

but yes the above poster is right, its pretty foolish to try to speculate the price of an IS 3 years ahead.

Simple, see the value of the 08. But note that in 3 years, the 3IS will be out, making the 2IS worth even less.

Rule of thumb, cars depreciate ~50% in 5 years. IS350 and IS-F are no exception.

That was the old rule. Even Lexus are depreciating almost 50% in 3 years now. Don't go by what people are asking for their cars - go by what they are selling for or what dealers are giving you in trade.

Hmmm. Good luck... Really.. I always say get what you want and forget about what anyone else thinks. Either way the cars will drop more and more each year...

And good luck getting a decent job... Off topic but a B.S. Doesn't automatically mean you're garanteed a good job

Yea lol this is all hypothetically speaking. If we all die in 2012 then theres nothing we can do. And speaking of the economy, the job climate isn't getting any better for the next 5 years but hopefully a degree from UC Berkeley will help...hopefully..

Yup, that's why I wanted your guys' input since I know the new IS will come out by then, what kind of impact that would have on 2IS's

Yeah I know if anything, our economy will just get worse from here...recovery doesn't seem likely. I don't want to sound "Un-American" but this country has been digging a hole for the past 2 decades that we will never get out of

Just my .02

It'll have a large impact on the resale value of 2IS. Barely anyone wants to buy a previous gen 3 series or C-class mainly because the current gen makes the previous gen look like crap. I wouldn't be surprised to see 2IS selling for $14-$18k once the the 3IS comes out.

You might be able to snag an IS-F for ~$25-$30k in about 3 years time. I've seen them as low as $34k right now.

On the other hand the 2nd gen SC didn't really cripple 1st gen resale value because they were quite different cars. Likewise the LS430 didn't really plummet when the 460 came out because it was a relatively small change.

Sometimes the next gen one isn't better, just different.

(not saying that'll be the case here, nobody actually KNOWS yet... but it's not an automatic that the next gen of a model coming out kills resale of the previous gen).

Personally I think every year since the 2008 has gotten uglier... so if they continue their styling direction I'll probably think the 3IS is crap.... I hope not, but that seems to be where they're heading.

I will have to look at some pics of models after '08. They basically look the same to me. I did notice the headlight change on the '11.
