3% over dealer invoice
Hey fellas.. After holding off my purchase for the IS tell may-June.
One dealership emailed me and said that waiting tell that time dealers don't give that much of a discount, due to high demand of the IS..is that true??
He said if I wanted I can special order the car this month he will give me 3% over dealer invoice, for a IS 350AWD with nav/ML premium package. (Fully loaded.)
Do u guys think this is a good deal

I believe Aug/Sept and a little later are better times to purchase. The reason being is newer stock arrives. I.E. 2012 Lexus models begin to show up. Then the dealership is left with the 2011 models and they want to clear them out. I'd wait until the fall. Just my 2 cents.
But will they do a special order that late in the year if they are trying to move the current years stock?
3% over invoice doesn't sound TOO much. They have to make a little money on that special order.

In Sept, I saw on Cars Direct IS250 for $26,500 brand spanking new.

There is a lot involved in car pricing and timing is an important factor.
If you can't hold out for September, then June is fine. I paid $29,800 for my IS250 in June and got 1.9% financing.

that sounds like a good deal.
what people are saying about waiting till Aug/Sep because the 2012 will be here and you'd get a better deal would not apply in your case since you're not trying to buy a car off the lot, you're trying to special order. And at that time, you also risk the dealership not wanting to do a special order since they're trying to move the 2011 stock with the 2012 coming.
the way i see it, the only way it'll make sense to wait till Aug/Sep is to hope that a car matching what you want shows up between now and then and it's not gone by then, in which case you would be getting it off the lot. if not, you're either stuck with what they have on the lot, or try to go through the whole special order process again, which may or may not work out that late in the year.

People are forgetting its a special order, not another IS bought in a lot of cars.
Dealers only refresh inventory when its needed, and when they buy cars they usually buy them in small (or large depending on the dealership) lots, they get better pricing that way. Its cheaper to ship that way too, so it saves the dealer in different areas. On a special order though, there's no guarantee on when the car will be built and ready to go, and most times the car comes by itself and doesn't come with a lot of cars the dealer may have ordered. 3% above invoice isn't bad, they can probably go a tiny bit lower. Maybe 2-2.5%.
You wont save much, if anything, by special ordering summer or later cuz by then all the incentives from the dealer to the manufacturer will be on next years models, and most dealers (not all) will be less willing to give you a cheap deal on a special order 2011 when the 2012 model's have all the incentives.
The IS is in high demand though, last time i went to service my Lexus they were unloading 2 transportation trucks, one was all IS models, the other was half IS half GS. Good to see more people are seeing the value in an IS

True, the special order will cost you... and honestly, it sounds like the 3% over invoice is a good deal since this is exactly the car you want with the options you want and color etc. The aug/sep time is a good deal but you are limited to what's at the lot. You can't be too picky then.
NOOOoooo!! I want to be one of the few IS's around here!!!!!!!1
3% given the AWD 350 is "new" this year is probably pretty decent as deals go... but I'd come back with something like "Look, this is a guaranteed sale for you just placing an order, and no paying to have the car sit on your lot like a normal allocation...I'll give you $500 over invoice, that's a fair profit for you and a good deal for me"
Because otherwise the more options you add the more it's costing you (3% of the price remember). Hence the more you load it up the more his profit (and your cost) go up.
But offering a fixed dollar above invoice lets you option however you want without jacking up the $ going in the dealers pocket.
(and yeah, the waiting for sept. advice is useless here since it's a special order... you can't special order a 2011 in September of 2011, they're not making them anymore at that point).
