Default DIY - Black Window Trim

I've had several people ask me about it and it's really simple, so why not do a DIY for it

1. You will need something called PLASTI DIP!

Here is the thread of all the wonderful stuff you can spray with this stuff:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...-required.html

2. You will lastly need newspaper and masking tape...
3. That's it, lets begin!
______________________________________________________________

Step 1: Clean your car! Chances are it's dirty (whether you want to admit it or not) so go ahead and get some Quick Detailer and clean the area around your window trim, and the actual chrome window trim itself. Make sure you dry it off real good, can't be wet!

Step 2: Mask off the surrounding area as so in the pictures:

All you need to do is tape off around the trim, BUT still leave a little bit of the car's paint showing (this is to help peel the excess off after, trust me) Some people get all crazy when taping off the car, do whatever you want, as long as you tape AT LEAST this much off like in the picture. The newspaper just helps cover more surface area.

Step 3: Spray on the PLASTI DIP! If you have never used this stuff before, it is easy, you just shake well before use, and spray side to side about 1 foot away. Goes on like spray paint, comes off like a sticker. DO NOT WORRY... when you do your first coat, it will look blotching and gross. This stuff smooths out in a matter of minutes, so relax. Spray a coat, wait 10 minutes, do another coat, and keep doing this for up to 3-4 coats (I recommend AT LEAST 3 coats)

Step 4: Once all your coats are done and dry, it is time to remove the tape and newspaper! Take all of it off, and slowly peel the tape off right next to the window trim. You will notice it will take some of the rubber with it too, that is fine, because it is the excess rubber on the paint of the car (you want this to come off). Slowly peel the rest off and look at your beautiful new trim!

Step 5: If you messed up a spot or you get a chip in it later, just retape and respray that area.

FINAL PRODUCT!

If you taped your car like mine, and didn't cover your windows, you will notice a light overspray like in this picture. Easy fix,x just cwash your window and it's all good

If you have any questions feel free to ask!

I had thought about doing this. I don't mind the chrome, but I think it might look better black.

I took off my chrome because I have a red and black theme on my car. Chrome looked out of place.

Im actually even vinyl wrapping my door handles black too

I have had this dipped for about 3-4 months now, no problems. Handles car washes fine

I believe if you put on 4 - 5 coats, it will last pretty well. I have 3 coats on my rear badges and they held up after washing my car a couple of times.
