Default Bent Rims (What to do with them?)

I have two rims that is slightly bent according to Costco after I hit a curb. I called around and it costs at least $125 to fix them. (I am kinda don't trust the costco mechanic there, but I forgot to ask to take a look while they're spining it.)

I am thinking to bring them to a shop and spin them to see what's up?

Any suggestion what to do with them?

Well either way you should fix them because they are out of balance and driving above 80 will feel like they are going to fall off. If some how they can still balance it with the bent then I can live with it but you should still keep in mind to change/fix them when you have the money.

If the rims are cheap then it would be a good time to consider upgrading to a more expensive and durable set.

Have a tire shop take the tire off and spin the wheel and see how bad it is bent. They might be able to balance the wheel but your seal to the tire is iffy

Forgot to mentioned, these are sitting at my house. They are the OEM IS350 18" I am currently on the 09 OEM 18" Rims.

I would probably take them to the shop and spin them. (TOO LAZY to hahahah)

Well, according to COSTCO, they can't balance them. (Hopefully whatever costco said it's not true) I was hoping they are fixable by adding some weights. I was thinking using these rims for Winter tires rather than going to mount/remount every season with my current winter tires. (Funny thing is I sold one of the good rims at Craigslist last year hahahahah)

the problem can't be fixed with balancing, problem is "out of round" and can only be fixed by straightening. may be ok for low speed winter driving but you will feel it anything over 30mph! . A good wheel shop will know of straightening service. In SoCal, I've used Pico Tire and Wheel for straightening work...

Google or Yelp a wheel repair facility by your house and take it to them. It should be around $65 ea. wheel to repair.

If it's just a slight curb scuff or two you might be okay, but anything more and you'll definitely want to get those straightened. Sometimes it could be irreparable; hopefully this isn't the case for you. As MSirJet and others mentioned, "out of round" wheels will affect your performance, especially at higher speeds. Price it at two or three different wheel shops, and like Sffd103 said, check out Google or Yelp. For starters, there is a place called "A Speedline Auto & Tire Specialists" in Chicago, which seems to be highly recommended, but I don't live there so cannot personally vouch. Sometimes a mobile repair service is just as good too, but you'll want to choose a reputable place where they are thoroughly experienced in wheel repair. They need to know how to properly heat the wheel and use the latest in hydraulic pressure equipment and other tools to straighten the metal with precision. Some places are definitely better than others and unfortunately, I can attest after once getting a rim back that was sent out for a simple repair that some people are downright incompetent and have absolutely no idea what they're doing. So choose wisely and good luck!

I had hit a pothole hard I think around a year ago and when the tire repair shop was pulling my winter tires off and putting my summers back on, they told me about the bent rim. They asked permission to attempt to fix it and I gave it to them. And they said it was pretty straight. However, my ride's been rocky around the 80mph mark for a while. finally late in 2010 when it was time to put my winters back on, I just got a replacement rim. The rim and winter tires are actually at the tire repair shop right now and hopefully will be on first thing in the morning

just make sure whoever does the straightening uses machines, not hammers or portapower's.

you could get a big heavy piece of glass and turn the rim into a coffee table

Costco can be real pr_cks when it comes to wheels and tires. Take the wheel to a real tire shop and ask them to put it on the balance machine on slow - you will see any problem with the wheel. If there is a dent, you will need to get it professionally fixed - $125 is pretty good for repair and refinishing.
