Default Steering wheel controls

Does anyone know how to remove the two side modules on the steering wheel that contain the audio and telephone controls?

I'm thinking if I can remove it then I can take out the buttons and wrap in carbon fibre film and then put the buttons back in.

Take a look at the steering wheel damper thread on how to remove the airbag. Once you have the airbag off, you can see the screw that holds each side on.

Thanks, seems easy enough. I'm going to be attempting this sometime next week.

I'm hoping to make it look same as the following Think Design switches:

Since i'm going to be removing these switches, i was considering what kind of backlight these buttons have behind them? i'm assuming it's some kind of soldered LED. Does anyone know if these can be replaced with brighter ones and possibly different colour?

Thanks

There you go. Just make sure NOT to unplug the air bag.

Thanks. If the battery is disconnected, then it is ok to disconnect the airbag isnt it?

Yes but you can remove the control pads without unplugging the air bag.

OP, when i redid my control bezels, i just disconnected the battery, unscrewed the airbag, set it aside and then unscrew the control bezels. Didnt have to disconnect anything. After u get the control bezels off just put the airbag back in place. Remove again when youre done and put back together
