Default hood adjustment

Ive been having trouble closing my factory hood lately (no wrecks/bumps) but it just seems like im putting way to much effort into closing it. I took the grill out and im having trouble with the adjustment. Is the hood latch built into the radiator support? anyone else have trouble like with carbon fiber hood install?

thanks for your time and help. -Evan

Hmm... now that you mentioned it. My hood is pretty hard to close. I have to basically slam my hood very hard to get it to close. I also notice that the front of hood is lower by 1 -2 cm below the fender. It's not aligned with my fender.

You can start by checking your hood alignment.

I'll point it out to dealer when I take my car in for first oil change this Saturday.

My hood was doing the same thing about 1-2 cm theres a bolt in the center of the hood latch covered by a plastic cap (hard to see) thats the adjustment nut. Works great now!!!

our hoods are pretty light as it is. u cant simply use its weight to close it. plus the hydraulic supports dont help close it as its made to force the hood up.

I was told that it's normal as our cars have some seal I forgot it's name. But as for the unalignment or the hood slightly lower than the fenders I am going to ask the service guy the next time I am in.

Does anyone know what bolt he’s referring to?

I adjusted the 2 rubber bumpers to align the hood with the side. But the hood has a little too much play so I want to adjust the latch lower so it tightens up

JM2C but it's the hood adjusters hardening up as the rubber stops age. When you drop the hood the adjustable stops compress a slight amount and the hood latches. As they age, they harden. As they harden ever so slowly the hood doesn't have the mass to compress them and it fails to latch even tho nothing changed.

You can screw both sides down 1/4 to a 1/2 turn until you get new ones but it may allow the hood to rattle in place on rough roads.

Exclamation Replace the bump stops on both sides, they harden with age!!!

Replace these with new ones.... adjust so hood is level with fenders and does not rattle when closed.

Not off hand but it's probably the same for all cars with aluminum hoods and gas struts. Tho that likely disqualifies the Toyota line up.

Well that was easy! Thanks Mike!

I'm on mobile but it looks like the push pin removable rivets are there too. I bought some from Toyota but they don't match the OEM's and don't pop out if pushed down either which means you need a tool to remove them..

On topic:
For anyone installing new stops, take your time and start low and extend them. Just don't drop the hood from 3 feet up until you get them dialed which may take multiple tries!
