Default Warranty Question

I recently purchased a 2006 Lexus IS250 with 60,000 miles. The car seems to be in good shape, but I'm considering the purchase of an extended warranty. The warranty I'm considering lasts 4 year and costs $1,800. There is also a $100 deductible per service. It covers everything but cosmetic and service repairs. Is a warranty a waste of money? Will I spend $1,800 in repairs over 4 years without the warranty?

An extended warranty can be a huge help if you aren't a DIY kind of person, or if you don't have any ties to a service facility...we were just talking about how replacing a side view mirror actuator was over $500, so a warranty could be worth it...

$1800 is on the high side of warranties, and especially with a $100 deductable...call Fidelity (1-800-327-5172) and ask them about options...we deal with them everyday and they are not a pain like other companies...

quick123....u say 1800 is on the high end...what is considered a good or reasonable deal? I work very far now and I drive A LOT, so the warranty could come in handy.

With a Direct Injected engine (see carbon buildup thread) You may find 1800 cheap compaired to the cost of removing the heads for cleaning.....

I just got my IS 350 and had them put a 4 year 0 ded (paid 2000 for it). on it. I learned my ML woofer (or amp) is blown, and may have a bad busing up front, so should start to see cash back soon!

The Lexus warranty is probably the best you can get, but keep in mind that there are still items that they will not cover (always check the fine print)...$1800 with a $100 deductable is high, you can see that the Lexus one is 4 years-$50 deductable-$1800...check with Fidelity, their platinum warranty covers just about as much as Lexus and should cost less

You don't need to remove the heads to clean out the carbon deposits...just using a good top engine cleaner should do the trick

Well, the main thing I think to keep in mind here is that the warranty will NOT be from Lexus. That can be a big factor in considering the type of work that will be done.

Im thinking once your vehicle hits either A.) 4 years from the date of you purchasing brand new from the lot, or B.) the car reaches 50k the factory warranty becomes invalid and you cant purchase a lexus extended warranty unless your under the factory 4 years or 50k. So for you i believe what people are saying is you can go to a third party and purchase a similar warranty for your vehicle.
But if you like you can give Troy Dietrich from Toyota of Greenfield a call. Thats where I recently purchased my Platinum 100k or 4 years $0 Deductible warranty ....
