Default Engine Swap? Possible?

250 to a 350?
Anyone ever successfully do this?
What parts are needed to replace?
Thanks in advance

My guess? Would cost more time and money than simply just buying an IS350.

A lot more.

Oh, and it'll need to be a 2009 or newer 250, since the 350 motor and ecu will be expecting the car to have VDIM.

Oh, and you'll need to swap the transmission too... since they don't use the same one...

Oh, might as well do the differential then too since the gears aren't the same and you can't reprogram your ECU for that...

^^ Pretty much what Kurtz said. You're better off just buying a 350 than going through all that work..

what if you were to put the GS350awd motor into an 09+ 250awd... i heard they both use the same tranny? so besides the motor and ECU what else would be needed to run properly? paying a lot of money to a swap for a 300+ hp 250awd would be more worth it since it doesn't exist... as opposed to a 250rwd-350rwd where it would make a lot more sense just to trade up.

A gs350awd cost way to much here in canada, 335xi cost a lot more too + Beemer unreliability and the g37x doesnt look nearly as good as a 2is... so yeah a 300+ hp 250awd would be nice hehe

Take the engine swap cost + trade in for a 250 and buy a F to shut those 350 fools up

Consider it this way, the cost of the engine + tranny + diff alone would run you more than the cost of a trade in. I mean unless you find the parts out of a totaled 350 but chances are the car being so new, to find one like that is impossible. So you're left to order the parts new. Which by the way they're all made in Japan so expect to pay quite a bit for shipping charges. Now we've yet to consider any cost of the engine mounts as they're most likely different and the cost to do this entire swap (unless you know somebody who'll do it for free which would be great if you did), you're looking at quite a bit. Then you might also want to upgrade your suspension parts to the is350's to match up better with the changed weight and weight distribution (though you could always go f-sport), and you might want the larger brakes, and possibly any other little thing you can think of...

End of the day you'll spend probably anywhere from $10-20 grand after all said and done (VERY VERY rough estimate) and the fit and finish won't be anywhere NEAR as high quality as something out of the factory AND technically it won't really be street legal without you doing a lot of paperwork i'd assume. This is a much more involved process than necessary. It'll take longer and cost more for a lesser quality product result. But hey if you wanna do it, let us know how it goes !

And if you need money, I think they'd be more likely to give you a loan for a trade in rather than doing all that work. Food for thought.

+1 on all of that but curb weight difference between the 2 is very minimal, i had is250 suspension on my 350 for a while before coils.

a gs350 awd engine inside the IS body would be unique though

The GS and IS both use GR Series V6 engines. The 2GR-FSE is the same engine in both the IS350 and the GS350. The 2006 GS300 had a 3GR-FSE engine, while all IS250s have the 4GR-FSE.

always thought about that
would the vdim be controled by the vdim ecu?
so the engine ecu will not even know the vdim is there or not?

hmmm so i suppose that makes the swap even more possible. so I assume all the 250awd needs is the 2GR-FSE off either a GS350awd or IS350 and the ecu off the GS? since the IS350 ecu isn't programmed to run the front wheels?

prob have problems with the electrical components though I assume?
