Default Paint Cost Estimate

I was wondering if any of you guys could give me an estimate on what you think this should cost to fix. My boy at Maaco's said he could fix it for $175 in one day, and that there was a slight chance of a halo effect in bright sun light as he was not repainting the entire quarter panel or the entire bumper. I went to two other rep. shops and they said it would cost between 900 and 1000. Do you guys know of any other places.

I can't see the detail but take it to a detail shop to see if they can buff it out...

I would not trust Macco, plus if you are getting high quotes from numerous repair shops it is probably how much it will cost to repair. If it is down to the metal or primer, then repainting the entire panel might be needed and blending would be needed to, which is qhy the quotes might be 900ish.

i repainted my whole rear bumper and blended part of the quarter panel for say 500 bucks or so.... i believe if some places are just a ripoff... and some really do it well
depends on your shop

IMO, u should take that $175 deal because its only a tiny bit of the car, u dont need to need to repaint the whole panel. thats what i would do atleast

I agree with ****'s comment. Unless you're really wanting to make things completely perfect, I would stick with the $175 deal.

I'd take it to one of the reputable shops or just use touch up paint on it. A half *** spot repair would look far worse IMO.

get a water based paint touch up for the car from a reputable paint shop.... then touch it up... layer it.... get it to another shop... get it wet sanded with very fine sand paper say 2000+ grit.... then polish it.... or maybe without the sanding... you can just buff it off..

175 for that is cheap if he's going to sand down the area, and paint/clear. i painted my lip and and i spent $60 for the can of sgm paint and 30 for the clear alone. the labor isn't exactly easy either.

Yea the second picture where it looks like the paint was just rubbed hard he said he can do a minor clear coat layer and polish it out and the worst that would happen is I would get a halo enough in bright light but he said a clay bar would help that out. As for the two chips, I can't layer with touch paint because, it is deep and it would take forever to stack enough layers, and the paint won't stick to the body and it will just peel off. I would have to bond it, primer it, and then paint it which I have already tried even sanding down the area a bit. I have done touch up work before. But just not with really small chips like this, I just can't get the bond to stick and hold even after 24 hours of drying. So I think the 175 deal is good since he knows me. 900 is nuts they want to repaint the quarter panel and rear bumper and replace all the 3M protectant stickers.

In order of cost, try Acefalcon2's approach first (buff/touch-up/buff/sand), your boy at Maaco second and if neither look good, have a body shop do the entire panel. You're going to have have a mismatching adjacent panel somewhere no matter what you do.

Don't take it to Maaco. Seriously.

I took my dad's SC430 to get quotes on a bumper repaint. I narrowed it between a Toyota collision center and a Lexus collision center. The TCC was on $500 while the LCC was $700. Trying to be cost efficient, my dad chose TCC. They did a serious boched job and it makes me feel sick knowing we paid 500 for a bad job, when 200 dollars more would have had us a great job done.

When looking at body shops, make sure you try to see examples of past cars they have worked on.

Good luck.
