Default door light ---> led strip DIY!

Hey guys so heres the DIY that was requested by some members. Enjoy!

1. First pull off the red light cover using your fingers. Start at the bottom edge of the cover and it will pop off.

2. Then pull off the clear bulb cover using a screwdriver to push the tab. The cover will pull right off after. Pull out the stock bulb if you don’t want the red light to remain on after the led strips are installed. Then push the grey tab that connects the red cover to the power source. The cover will come off.

3. Then pull the paper off the led strip and place it where you want. Mine started from half way up the door to all the way to the bottom of the door near the body of the car. (the pic shows the leds on but theyre supposed to be off. i didnt really take apart the whole set up haha sorry)

(If you buy a 3 ft led strip keep reading. If yours is shorter then you can skip past this)

4. I had to run extra wire to make the led strip cable reach the power source. Cut however much wire is necessary. Then attach one wire to the + end of the led strip and one to the – end.

5. The strip had no problem sticking to the black plastic on the side of the door, but had trouble sticking to the metal underneath the door. So I used some high performance double stick tape to adhere the two together. Then run the wire under the rubber weather strip.

6. The blue wire is the + and the light green is the -. Use a razor to cut off a small half inch section of the insulation surrounding the each wire.(this is where you will tap into the power source for the leds)

7. Connect the + end of the led strip to the blue wire and then twist it for a good connection. Tape the + connection with electric tape tightly so it doesn’t slip off. Then twist the – wires together and tape them. (the dark green is the extra wire i cut so the power source would reach the leds cause the provided wires weren't long enough.

8. Reassemble everything and enjoy!

Happy modding

I'd recommend that you redo your wiring.

I'm just **** I like to use heat shrink tubes when I do wires. Looks cleaner and extra security.

for originality. I'm guessing that doesn't get pinched when you close the door??

nope no pinches. the led strip is super flat so it doesnt have any chance of even touching the body of the car when the doors closed.

btw i love the look at night when you see the leds come up the door. if its just under the door it looks like an underglow, which is not what i was really looking for. but to each his own right? thanks for the input guys!
