...just learned the steering wheel (shake) damper is now factory equipped on the AWD IS350 for 2011.

I'm installing mine soon, and am all about disconnecting the battery for safety. But wouldn't pulling the fuse for the airbag be just as safe?

YEa no one seems to have answered this question

Is the GS damper heavier than the ISF?????

from the below numbers posted, the IS mention is the 250/350 or the F?

What are the corresponding part numbers for the 250/350 and the F?

and is the GS in fact the heaviest one? Why is everyone ordering the ISF one

12080 - IS Convertible (.510 lbs or 231 grams)
53020 - IS Sedan (.510 lbs or 231 grams)
52020 - GS models (.560 lbs or 254 grams)

I installed mine this weekend. An addition to the instructions is that you definitely have to disconnect both the airbag wires and the two plug-in harnesses that go to the steering wheel controls as the damper frame fits AROUND the large mounted connector. Also, you use a small flatblade screwdriver to lift the yellow plug locks at the arrow on the airbag connectors. Took a few minutes to figure out how to release them. I was surprised that the nav and radio did not loose any settings. I did loose clock, seat-belt alarm setting, and seat position memory as well as having to intialize the roof and door windows when I reconnected the battery. I have noticed a pleasant difference in the steering "weight". Feels more like my RX did.

i just installed mine as well...

steering feels heavier which i like... i still have to observe on the bumps and uneven roads but so far so good. it's just a cheap mod anyway i think lexus should put this steering damper in all of their cars.

This thing got my curiosity piqued.
As an engineer I know dampers are used to reduce vibrations, not necessarily improve how the steering behaves, as others report. It is possible that the side effect of the added weight adds some pendulum effect to the steering making it turn with some feedback.

http://www.trelleborg.com/en/Automot...l-Mass-Damper/

A Mass Damper is basically a tuned weight applied to a structure to reduce vibration. Most steering wheels require a mass damper to dampen vibrations resulting from road conditions or other structure borne inputs. The mass damper serves to reduce or eliminate vibration of the steering wheel for an anticipated range of frequencies.
