Default Great...AC filter broke

Got my oil change and those ****ers removed my AC filter to try and sell me a new one. Of course it was while in fresh air mode so now its clicking and ****. Is this a relatively easy fix? Their accident or whatever department is supposed to call me so well see how they try and screw me over.

I remember reading, that if the filter is forced out in fresh air mode, the repair is expensive.

What is clicking? Something on the housing of the filter..If so new filters don't have the housing, so maybe the new filter would eliminate the click?

I've read that in order to change the AC filter, the system must be in re-circ mode and if it is not, the actuator that controls between re-circ and fresh air is broken , which may account for that clicking noise..

Repair cost is about ~ 700-800 dollars, from what i've heard.

Lesson here is to never let some junkie near your Lexus no matter how good the deal is...

I remember reading the cost to repair is much higher than that.

It's the labor that's the killer as the entire dash has to be disassembled to get to everything, at ~$110/hr at most dealers.

That's the problem with quick oil change places - they are trained to take out all filters and show you what you've done (picture rubbing your dog's nose in crap for an analogy).

The last time I went to one - NOT in my Lexus - they took my brand new air filter out, smeared it with grease, and then brought it to me and asked, "What would you like to do about this?" I told them to give me $20 so I could replace my new filter that they intentionally damaged. This happened in front of a room full of customers, and it was fun to watch the guy stammer and backpedal for a few minutes before giving me a free oil change and filter.

Buyer beware when using these places. I hope you got it in writing that they're going to fix the problem. If not, you might need a lawyer to get it sorted out.

Not only that but the A/C has to be bled off, the evaporator disconnected, and the system purged and recharged. It's a major PITA job.

I broke mine doing just what the guy at the quick lube did. I did a field repair that worked, but wasn't "as good as new." It also wasn't Lexus approved but I wasn't going to change the whole thing when I could fix it without removing the whole dash and HVAC from the car.

whoa! you're looking at least $2000 to repair it. you need to take out the blower assembly, meaning taking out the whole dash. Labor is the killer. i think Lexus should start putting warning sticker on the blower plastic cover. what a pita.
