Squirrel nest in cabin air filter housing
I just bought a 2002 gs300 and was doing some Maintenance on it like motor oil, air filter etc. well I decided to also do the AC/ cabin air filter. When I pulled out the filter I noticed a nest inside the housing and the filter itself had been chewed on by some rodent. Question is how can I get the nest out with such a small gap in the air filter housing? Do I take the whole dash out or is there another way to get it out? Any advise is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Ok I took it back to the dealership where I bought it and they said it was just a ball of debris caught in the cabin filter. I'm kinda disgusted whether a squirrel, mouse or rat lol but they vacuumed it out and replaced the filter. I'm going to double vacuum it and spray Lysol like crazy then run the AC on high. I tried uploading a pic but it asks for a URL??

My $0.02:
Be glad rodent(s) stopped at the filter and not inside the cabin. I've heard of deodorant soap or mothballs in air intake to discourage. I have also used some stainless steel scouring pads in parked cars' exhaust pipe tips to discourage critters. YMMV.

Thanks for info,I was given the runaround by the dealership. All they did was vacume the nest out and denied it was a rodent. So I drove home ( with air off) and saw half a pecan inside the blower that must've fell down when I removed the filter at first. I did read about crazy stories of the rodent chewing past the filter into the actual blower motor creating a scene from Saw lol. I used a mirror and a bright light verify this did not happen and was able to manipulate my shop vac hose inside the housing into the blower to get the remaining pieces. Overall I retrieved everything from the nest i saw initially. I put a few moth ***** in there for good luck too ( lavender scented lol)

I see this ALL the time at my garage. But it is more common in the northeast winters with rodents looking for warm places to hide. I would recommend spraying some bacteria killer onto the filter/blower motor area. If there was an animal living there chances are it went to the bathroom which means you'll be smelling/breathing urine. We use a product called Frigi-fresh, works great!
