Default spacer question

hi all, have been lurking on the forum for a little while. a lot of great info anyway i have a 250 AWD on f sport springs and f sport 18" wheels (+40 offset) and 225/40 tires. I'm thinking about putting on Ichiba v2 spacers, 15mm all around (all around because that's usually recommended for the AWD if i'm not mistaken).

a search on the forum suggested that most people use 15mm front/20mm rear on their RWD 2IS. So i know the rear is gonna be fine for me. my question has to do with the 15mm front. Do you have to do any fender mod etc at all? will the tire rub when say you're going over speed bumps or turning etc?

thanks in advance!

You should be ok because First, AWD height level is higher then RWD. Second 18's with 40 offset with 15mm spacers make them 25. There shouldn't be any problem.

thanks phis250!

i was reading more about the AWD last night, and i know people say it's best/recommended to keep everything (wheels/tires/spacers) the same all around. But i've also read that the important thing for AWD is to keep the overall tire diameter the same, which would mean spacer size doesn't really matter much, or am i wrong in thinking that?

from pics i saw, 20mm rear does look good. So i'm not sure what to do. 15mm all around to be safe? Or 20mm rear, assuming no fender mod whatsoever is needed to prevent rubbing??

Is there any realistic risk in running 15f/20r on AWD when my wheels/tires are already the same size? any inputs would be appreciated thanks!

don't know this from experience but, just thinking about it yea AWD you'd want it all matching but people run staggered setups fine it seems so i don't think running a bigger spacer in back would cause a problem. also thinking about it using a bigger spacer in the rear, its not like your increasing the width of the actual wheel itself, or fatness of the tire,(not putting more rubber on the ground like staggered so doesn't affect traction ratio from front to rear wheels) you're just pushing out the wheel more, its not like its a big difference from 15mm to 20mm spacers anyway, its like 1/5th of an inch more.

and as someone else said, f-sport drop is mild, AWD sit high as it is anyway, i bet you could run 25mm all around haha

edit: heres the staggered thread

thanks xuningshen! yeah that makes sense. and it's not like i'll have a full blown staggered setup since it's only the spacer size that's different.

also it just occurred to me that most of the spacer-related pics i've seen were on stock 17" or 18", so the 'look' doesn't necessarily translate to f-sport wheels for the same size spacer. So i was hoping you could help me out CL folks. What would you choose for my setup?

AWD
f-sport springs
f-sport 18x8 +40 wheels, tires are 225/40/18 all around.

Would you go with 15mm front/15mm rear? Or 15 front/20 rear? Would these stick out too much? And i'd rather not have to do anything to the fender. i'm trying to stay with ichiba v2, hence the 15mm minimum. thanks!

hmm interesting... yeah I had some problems with my car one time in RWD though

F-sport springs/shocks 19in f-sport wheels. 15mm front, 20mm rear.

For some reason my left side of the car was rubbing mad while the right side was perfectly fine.

But knowing that AWD is a lot higher than the RWD, I think you will be fine. I say do 15mm front 20mm rear

25mm rear and there's still room to spare. 20mm is for small timers

haha thanks. i remember seeing pics of your car when i was searching. if i remember right, you have 25mm on the rear and no spacer on the front, right? What are the specs of your wheels and tires? no rubbing? did you have to do anything to the fender?

my wheels were 18x8 +40, with a 25mm spacer rear, and no spacer front tires are 225/40/18 all around, no fender mods required.

cool that's the same specs as mine. now i'm tempted. one more question, any rubbing in the rear when you're at full capacity or going over large dips and bumps? thanks!

5mm is not a huge difference as it is. My brothers AWD Merc has a filthy stagger and he doesn't have any trouble.
