Default Wheels/Tires..

I've been pretty satisfied with my 08 IS250.. until I discovered this site. Now Im seeing how great these cars looks dropped with some nice wheels. I have decided to (in the spring) buy some wheels and drop it a bit. However, I have no clue where to start.

I've been browsing the wheel thread index for a while now and Im loving what Im seeing, but when I get to the numbers its all greek to me.

i.e. 19x8.5 +29, 19x10.5 +43
20.8 lbs front, 22 lbs rear
Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 235/35/19, 265/35/19.

Im just looking for a little direction so that I can research. I've searched these forums for a faq or tutorial on rim/tire sizing but found nothing. Can anyone point me to the right place?

Welcome!! That was exactly how I felt (and probably everyone else lol) before finding CL This place makes your wallet empty.

Im running 19x8.5 +35 front and 19x9.5 +30 rear. Tires are Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 235/35/19 front, 265/30/19 rear. For me, this is a flush and perfect setup (.... some people on here go crazy with wheels/offsets ).

Rim/tire sizing is something you really have to learn on your own. I don't think there is a complete tutorial on it. You could check our tire forums and maybe they could help with an answer or two. Also from what I see it seems like mod bugs bit you already lol.

Giantsfan your car definitely needs a drop, then everything will be perfect.

Are you having problems deciphering the wheel/tire specs above? If so, here you go:

"19x8.5" = 19" diameter wheel, 8.5" width (this is a common IS aftermarket size for the front wheels in a staggered fitment. Also, a 9.5-10 width is common for the rear)

"+29" = Wheel offset. Offset is the amount of space between the wheel mount and the wheel centerline.

"20.8 lbs front" = how much the wheel weighs without tires

"235/35/19" = Tire sizing. 235 is the section width of the tire. 35 is the ratio between the tire sidewall and the width. 19 is the diameter of the wheel.

Are you planning on dropping your car on springs or coils? That is often a factor on the wheel/tire combo if you don't want to rub against the fender liner (or fender itself).

For example, I'm dropped on coilovers with 19x8.5 (F) and 19x9.5(R) wheels, 235/35/19(F) and 265/35/19(R) tires, and +36 Offset all around. No rubbing.

I'm looking at a similar setup and hoping not to rub with an Eibach 250 drop. I'm assuming no fender mods done to your IS?

Thank you! Thats exactly what I was looking for.

I defintely want to drop my car a little bit. Nothing too crazy because I dont want any rubbing. But Im not sure if I want to do it with springs or coilivers, have to read up on that too.

Thank you for all your responses.

***Edit***

Well, after reading a bit I can defintely not afford coils at this moment.

So far, future set up looks something like this.

2008IS250 AWD
Dropped on F-Sport Springs with 19x8.5 19x9.5 Volk TE37s, 235/35/19 and 265/35/19R Michelin Pilot Sports PS2

Thank you again for your responses.
