Default Question about d4s bulb failure

Hey 2IS crew
I posted this in lighting and got no answers.....I am posting it here because the Is has same lighthing setup and there are so many more IS cars that there should be more experience with this here in the IS forum.....
I have an 06 gs300 with oem HIDs, d4s bulbs. Car has 54k miles and tonight I noticed a bulb was out.....turned the lights off and back on, light is back on....is this the way HIDs behave before going out ??? I know halogen filament bulbs burn out and they are done...what do HIDs do? I realize I could swap bulb from one side to the other and help pinpoint bulb vs ballast issue but common things occur commonly....any thoughts ?? Thanks

YOu know it was just near sunset and I could not see the lights on the road yet...so when I came home I noticed it was out when I got out of the car. This morning I drove with them on to work and they both worked (20 min drive).

next time when you get a chance to drive at night, watch out for it. or easiest way to pinpoint it is as you stated with the bulb switching. that will save you time. if its the bulb at least you'll have a heads up to get new bulbs while your current ones are slowly dieing.

my passenger side bulb flickered then turned off. now i have garax 8k's and its

Thank you for the reply, I have been thinking of getting Garax 6k d4s bulbs and found a vendor and with a coupon code is like $85 a set....but if I am having a ballast issue, I would almost think of swapping to d2s ballasts and 6k ultinon bulbs.....crazy but I may do it....

my car was initially purchased in 03/05 and has 56k on the odometer....I guess I could say it has intermittent issues but either way it is probably not covered anymore...
