IMO opinion Lexus needs to scrap the puddle shifters on the IS x50.

I do, too, but for the next gen, I wouldn't mind if they made both more intuitive.

 

They're there mainly for the same reason a lot of high-end cars have drilled rotors despite them being functionally inferior to solid ones. It's what the average uninformed consumer expects on the car, so suddenly lots of cars are coming with them, even when they're not that useful.


Now, at least unlike the drilled rotors, they don't make the car worse than the alternative, and as noted they do have some, fairly limited, use such as if you're coming down off the side of the mountain and don't want to overheat your brakes.

And almost certainly the 3rd gen IS will have its transmission given the F treatment and they'll become actual shifters.
