Default Tiptronics and the GS -----

Hello and thanks in advance...

I have started to use the manual shifting option more and more and have run into a small issue I am trying to resolve.

When using this option, I try and shift to the next gear based on when I think the RPMs will get close to the redline... This is probably normal.

My problem is when I shift and WHEN THE CAR ACTUALLY SHIFTS there is a delay which always caused the RPM's to spike higher than I would want.

SO MY QUESTION ----

Can this be adjusted to actually shift when the shifter is moved forward and get rid of the delay or am I stuck with the way it is and just need to shift sooner?

I hope that makes sense...just seems there is too long of a lag between shifting and the car actually changing gears.

What we have is "Poser Tip", not the real deal. The Ferrari 430 completes a tip shift in something like 1/1000th of a second. Porsche's tip is also very quick/responsive. Lexus doesn't have a sports heritage. They just want to sell cars and say that they have everything BMW does. Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now.

Bottom line, our GS's are luxury cars first and foremost. . .not that that's a bad thing (it's why I bought mine!).

So the answer is basically it is what it is?

No problem if we are stuck with it but I did not know.

Ditto. The fact that they used a manu-matic instead of paddle shifters is an indication of the lack of committment to pure sporting use of the car. Honestly, you've got to be in the vast minority of 3GS owners that shift manually.

The "gear" that displays on the car is the highest gear the transmission will go into. The car shifts into gear when it wants to, based on the RPM and throttle. So if you put your car in 4th gear and you're in 3rd gear, you wont shift into 4th until the car wants to. And when you get into 4th gear, it'll stay there, until you down shift or floor your car (then it downshifts).

Yes it sucks, which is why I only use it to downshift.

I know exactly what you’re talking about. What I do now is when shifting I let go of the gas just a bit and it goes through, the only setback I've notice from doing that is the car jerking a little.

This is bad, I missed the BMW & Acura sport shiftings. I really don't like the GS sport mode, just great luxury car!
Is it same in the "IS" model?
